FAQ: Xbox 360 Error Codes Explained
« Reply #840 on: December 04, 2009, 04:49:00 PM »

Can someone point me in the direction of solving an e18 error. I'm searching but it's a bit tedious. I've done the xclamp repair method which worked for a bit but now it's rrod constantly even after reapplying new thermal paste. I had to do the error code check to find out its e18 and im at a bit of a loss. Not sure if overheating again will damage it further somehow or not :S
Anyhow thanks for reading, and brill forum. Nice to find a lump sum of decent information.

your to the point you need to use the heat gun method or have a reflow done to it.....

the bad connections under the gpu chip have built up a lot of carbon and only a reflow will
fix it.

and a hair dryer is not the same as a heat gun, it doesn't get hot enough to do the job

I know when you fail to plug in the  av cable you get the four lights.

My question is, can leaving a console in a four light state lead to the three light RROD?

My problem might be weird...

I had an 0102 Xbox. I did the x- clamp fix. Worked for about 10 days, then video started going fuzzy. Then I shut it off, and no video. Stayed like that a few more tries. then every time i turned it on i got the 3 lights. So then I ripped it apart, and used my heat gun. This changed the error code to 0020. Any ideas?

hey - i am having similar problem. I have been reading page after page - tuts after tuts trying to figure out how to solve the problem. at first 3rrod - used xclamp, then green light - no vid or sound... used heat gun.. now 3rrod 0102... maybe i didn't heat it up enough? getting pretty frustrated and not sure what i should do. i think its a positive that i am getting error 0102 (e18) though i am not sure what else to try. i also used flux when heating up the cpu and gpu with the heat gun.

I think my only real choice now is rework station but i don't own one.. and its almost the cost of an xbox360 to do it through someone who has one (in Australia).

Hope i make sense - kinda frustrated at them moment blink.gif

Can the op edit error 71? It can be fixed by dumping/flashing the nand with XBR and jtag.

Hey guys, I've gotten a guide on how to fix the red rings of death -RROD. I have 3 red rings.. I get the error code 0102 . I have done the mod on my xbox i replaced the X-clamps with the screws, washers, etc. I removed the old thermal compound, reapplied new thermal compound arctic silver 5 thermal compound.

I STILL HAVE THE 3 RED RINGS!!!

nothing has changed... i'm very frustrated.. I wish there was there was something I can do.

Has anyone figured out a way to fix this?

Or help me even though I did the Mod on my xbox

I doubt that MS will repair my Xbox even though I modded it lol.. I still have the x-clamps. I can put it back how it was but it shows on the back of the xbox that i opened it up

you still have the 3RROD because you need to send your xbox to your local mod guy who can reflow the solder the safest way - using a rework station. i have the same problem - as disappointing as it sounds its the best way to fix the 3RROD - after that apply hybrids x-clamp fix and your done. There is limited people who reflow around where i live and is almost as expensive as purchasing a new xbox.

btw by the sound of it you are looking to jtag - another option is to purchase a second hand xbox that has not had the update applied and works ok. Good luck

To add to the list, I had gotten error code 0011 by having too much thermal paste on my GPU.

Hi guys,

I have got an xbox360 with rrod, the error code that is coming up is 0031. I have taken off the x-clamp and cleaned everything. There was a lot of thermal paste between the legs of the resistors around the gpu/cpu. Did the fix and tested and am still getting a 0031 code. I have read somewhere that this could also be a cracked ram chip??

Can anybody help me out here?

0031 Secondery Error
E13: Unknown: could be caused by a short between the heatsink and surrounding capacitors

This was a disk error for me the drive was jammed so i manualy ejected it and the error was gone

Cant be a short because i tried without any heatsinks on and it still gave the same error. I will try the dvd drive tomorrow and see if that fixes it.
