Any info on E81 and how to fix it? Not very much info available so far. Can't seem to fix it with the sync button or the current version update in a USB Stick.

0020 is still as an unexplained problem. Can you update that code please? All of my friends and everyone I know try to "out-smart" me and say it's a problem with the X-clamps or that its the heat sink pressure on the chips to MS uses the wrong thermal paste (Uh, what?). All of these are wrong wrong wrong. Terribly wrong. NEVER OVERHEAT YOUR XBOX! It's a dumb idea.

The problem lies within the MOBO's power rail. 0020's signal comes from a failure in the power rail whether it be a bad solder connection or a blown cap.

OP if you have any questions feel free to PM me.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

My best guess would be something going wrong with one of the cores. It seems that most of the 002-'s are related to core's. I don't have an exact location though. I haven't had any experience with this error first hand. Check the ram and tell me what's up. It would be my best logical guess to something generally around both cpu's.

Check the south bridge as well... That's something else I had just thought could be the problem.

my experience with 0023 is the cpu chip is overheating, if you've done the x-clamp mod and tried everything
and nothing works, then do this:

on the cpu side only return it to stock with the original x-clamp....  for some reason with the x-clamp mod
the heatsink is not sitting on the cpu and is overheating....

replacing the original x-clamp on the cpu side only almost always fixes this error for me.

Actually if the chip overheats at all it just shuts off the cores and gives the normal 2RoL... You can literally just take the heatsinks off and start the console to show this, it will shut down the cores in seconds. 0023 has nothing to do with the heatsinks sitting on the cores.  blink.gif

hey guys,

bit of an odd one here, I've got one that doesn't boot up. you hit the power and the center light flashes but never goes solid, and the ring of light never does its little loop (no video or audio out either). sometimes it will RRoD but only after running for a minute, it alternates between 0022 and 0103. I got it apart now and the X Clamp replacement has been done but the holes haven't been drilled in the solid metal part of the case, the replacement screws were way too tight so I loosened them off and now it won't RRoD but it still won't boot up. any guesses?

I had the RROD (three red LEDs) a couple of days ago, and after a few attempts to reboot without results, I took a look at the secondary error code, which turned out to be 0020. I then took the thing apart and applied llamma's X-clamp replacement and decided to add thermal paste, since M$ apparently hadn't when the console was assembled.
Now, when I turn it on, it boots to the dash without problems, but the front panel led's don't work, nor does any wireless controller connect, and the CPU gets real hot real fast, causing the fans to go into overdrive.

I guess this could be a possible short between the CPU and the front panel?

Update to my previous post:
I found the problem: while removing the X-Clamps, I accidentally hit one of the resistors near the front panel connector and ripped it partly off the circuit board.
Would it theoretically be possible to replace it, or just bridge the connections to get it back to work?

I apologise for not editing my previous post, but I couldn't find the edit button anywhere near it.

well are you sure it was not a cap/transistor? I wouldn't try bridging it, typically the components are there for a reason.

if you can take a pic of which part is missing I can try to get a resistance reading for you if it is a resistor so you can try to get a replacement component, I've got 4 360's here atm so one of them should have the same board.

I believe the board in question to be a Xenon, based on the shape of the heatsinks.
Here's a shot of the section of the board I'm talking about.
I've marked the location of the missing component with a red rectangle.

I had error E74 with one flashing light, but uhm i turned on the xbox without the AV cable and the red light turned off. It seems fine. Do you guys think it's a faulty AV cable in this case?

I really hope it's not my hard drive, it might not be because before i got the error the screen seemed a bit fuzzy.

Has anyone ever found a solution to an Xbox 360 that will give an E68 error right after the splash screen with no fans or hard drive attached at all?
