I'm almost starting to believe any error, can be caused by anything (looking at what fixes on what components have fixed what errors).

I'd like to throw in that I just fixed a 0020 by putting a dime in between the GPU heatsink and the rearmost RAM chip covered by the heatsink. This is all after a full reheat/reflow

Hey everyone,

I received the 2 red flashing lights today, and I fall under the "3 year warranty" but not the "1 year warranty" so Microsoft wants to charge me $100 to fix it. I've left it cool down for a full day, and then set it up on table with nothing around it and it still causes the 2 red lights.

I've read through the x-clamp fix, and I'm not the most "handy man" possible, so would it better to just pay the $100 and get it fixed, or should I just go about trying to fix it myself?

2 Red Lights means the xbox 360 is overheating.

right I know that it means it's over heating, but what should I do to fix the problem? Would something like the intercooler really work? Or is it more so a hardware problem?

usually just replacing the heatsinks thermal paste on both the cpu and gpu will fix 2 red light problems.....

make sure you clean the old thermal paste from the chip and heatsink before adding new
thermal paste.

I noticed that the 0031 error code (E13) was still marked as not yet known, I thought I'd let you guys know that I've had a few of these come to me and they were all fixable by raising the GPU heatsink about a millimeter, it seemed to have been shorting out on a capacitor to the upper left of the heatsink. Just figured I'd toss in my two cents.

We recently got a 3RL with our falcon unit after a year of usage. Some shops here near our place fix these problems, so we went and gave it a shot. I believe they did the usual xclamp fix and stuff. The 360 worked, but only for a day T_T.

Now the other day, I accidentaly left it on (while showing the 3RL) without the exhaust fans plugged in. It got very very hot, so I shut it off, plugged in the fans again and turned it on. The fans started off at full blast and the 360 started working again. This time, it lasted for about 3-4 days then the 3rl again. I did the overheat thing again, and it worked again but didn't last as long. Seems everytime I heat it up, the 360 comes out of the 3rl and starts working again.

You guys think a heatgun job will do the trick? Any guides in here showing what needs to be done? Thanks

seems the 0020 error has been giving some people grief. the other day someone dropped a xbox off at the electronics repair company i work for we normally dont get consoles in and being the game enthusiast the other techs dumped it in my lap and said fix it. well it was error 0020. i am not sure how many things can cause this error but for me it was the result of someone torquing the AV jack in the back of the xbox too hard. the error was corrected after i resoldered the loose pins of the AV jack onto the mother board and forced an overheat to clear the code

Okay, I performed the x-clamp fix about a year ago. All of a sudden about 5 days ago an update for cod4 caused me to get the red rings. I took the xbox 360 apart and cleaned the thermal paste off and reapplied it, put the xbox together and for about 15 minutes it worked then the red lights came back. It showed at first the three red lights with error code 0022, then i loosed up the screw a little bit and now it is giving me two red lights and error code 0011.

I bought a console only on ebay and it will be here 4-11 days, but i really want to get this one fixed and either sell it off or keep it

Then I tightend the bolts and screws on the back and got three red rings and error code 0031 HELP!

Well im a complete retard but it may help you guys out. I had a perfect running 360 ( Finally ! ) put hard drive in and it didnt set/ connect completely , heard the click but it felt "off". Loaded up , 3RRoD error 0020 !

well if a hdd can cause the same error as a loose AV jack maby it is a generic I/O fault

another stinking 0020... this one it can run flawlessly in SD, but the second the switch is flipped to HD, it pops a 0020. I let it heat up to reflow with the fans sitting on the DVD drive cooling the CPU, and they never speed up, just gently cruise along. The GPU heatsink never gets hot, and after 20 mins I figure it's just not gonna get hot so I switch it off. Leave it 15 and fire it up, works fine on SD, flip to HD, 0020. Would this be some kind of short in the AV socket/soldering between two of the HD pins?

did you try a different cable......? if you did then it's going to be the ana/hana or the gpu chip.

I have now repair quite a few of these and they are hanging together well to date without RROD issues (touch wood = belt head with large metal object-LOL)
