yeah mines pretty loud on pgr3, its like it never stops spinning full speed, this should be something that could be fixed in an update, surely its not constantly streaming info that fast from the disc.

Mine sounds like its going to take off and fly around the room when I play COD2 (the only game I have atm).

Between that and highering the sound on my amp to drown it out I'm going to go deaf before I'm 30 LOL.

Been watching this topic a while now, my drive seems very loud but then I wondered about what the other guy said regarding the dev software not having the dvd-speed control for the launch titles.

Curious I tried COD2, PDZ, Kameo and PGR3 and all these titles gave a really loud noise from my drive (and the noise level was at a constant level for each title).  Switching to DOA4 and I was really surprised to notice that the drive was really quiet (making less noise than my PC drive).  Can't wait for something like GRAW to come out so I can further test this theory but for the moment it seems to be holding true.  Having said that it may be something specific to DOA4, anyone got full auto or another recent title (i.e. not a launch title) and compare it to a launch title on their machine?

If we can try it on a few machines then we might be able to get somewhere!

I think you are Absolutely correct.

I have a pretty hefty surround sound setup and I usually play my games with it cranked. When I went to test my drive sound I shut off the receiver and popped in the nearest disc (DOA4)... I just recently got COD2 and a day or two ago I went to play it and happened to pop the disc in before powering up my surround sound, the drive was MUCH MUCH louder then before, trying different games the noise level was different, PGR3 and COD2 are the worst offenders; running the drive at full blast ALL THE TIME. While games like DOA4 (and one or two others I can't remember) only run it fast while loading and return to quiet speeds once the game is loaded.

When my PC DVD drive runs at 48x it's loud as heck too.

So really the loud drive problem is based in the programing, rather then adjusting the drive speed as necessary they just run it at full blast all the time.  rolleyes.gif

My first 360 was extremely quiet but had disc reading errors. My second 360 is pretty loud. Definitely louder than any 16x DVD or 52x CD-ROM drive i've ever owned. I don't notice it once I start playing though. I would certainly be pissed off if I used it for movies and it was that loud though.

Right... It seems like the Samsung is the quieter of the two. We just need someone to post a picture of a Samsung tray now.

Here's my one and only (well pretty rare) Samsung Drive... It's loud as HOLY HELL! Esp. in vertical position. I have HUGE noise issues with it.

I have a premium and have so far only run it in horizontal position and I must say it is significantly loud when playing games.  Definitely louder than xbox1.  It wouldn't surprise me if the 360 had loud noise due to all the cooling fans required but I find the DVD drive noise somewhat unacceptable.

It hasn't really bothered me yet, but it's surprisingly loud and I would have expected otherwise.  Hopefully what was mentioned earlier in the thread about initial games not having control of the drive speed is true.
