Anyone Have A Backside Pic Of The Play N Charge Battery Pack?
« on: January 05, 2006, 03:02:00 PM »

I was looking at my battery pack (the one for AA's) today and I noticed a metal strip on the back of it that shorts two conntectors on the inside of my wireless controller.  I'm wondering if this is was MS uses to tell if it's a playncharge vs a std battery pack.  My reason is that I believe MS is just using plain ol AA nimh batteries in the play and charge kit and is using that connector to tell the 360 that it has a plain AA holder vs the play and charge kit.  I'm sure a dremel and some aluminum foil could be used to trick this connection.

Yes, that metal stripe is what charges the play and charge kit.  There are 4 prongs on the back of the rechargeable pack that connect to the stripe.

But I must ask... why do you care?  What "tricks" are you going to play on the battery pack?  Just curious, not bashing.

Hmm interesting.  The reason I want to do this is by tricking the 360 controller to believe that a AA battery pack is the play n charge pack, you could theoretically charge the AA NIMH batteries using the play and charge kit.  That would essentially give you "extra" play and charge packs since you could convert the provided AA holders.  If you have a multimeter could you do me a favor and check for continuity between the connectors.
