Scared?

This is not some new revelation, just the official anouncement.  An HD-DVD drive has been on the burner for quite some time now for the 360, and the only reason the 360 did not come with one at launch was because HD-DVD technology was not ready.  Plus, it would have cost $500 plus like what the ps3 will cost.

Isn't the only difference between DVD and HD-DVD the fact that HD-DVD will support 1080p. In which
case everyone will have to buy new HD-TV's anywase!?

No, the main difference is the fact that a standard DVD can hold about 8.5GB, while a HD-DVD will hold up to 30GB.  They could eventually put video on there at 1080p, but you won't see that for some time.   Most likely, the fist wave of movies with be on at 720p or 1080i, the 2 standards right now.   Down the road a few years, when 1080p sets gets more market share, then you might see them try and squeeze 1080p on one.   So, no you don't need a new TV just to watch HD-DVD.

Well, unless you still have a standard-def TV.   Then you do.   If all you have right now is standard-def, then yes, HD-DVD is of no use to you.   But, people with HDTV sets will get big benefits from it.
