360 Controller Leds Stay On After Shutting Down.
« on: December 24, 2005, 03:16:00 AM »

First let me just say, my xbox 360 has been running perfect.  No issues yet, and I've been playing the hell out of the system since I got it.  Atleast 4 hours a day, sometimes upto 7hrs in one sitting.

Anyways, to my question.

I have 4 wireless controllers now.  And they all work great!  But I noticed that after I shut down the conosle 2 of them have a dim ring of light still on, LEDS.  When I'm using them they are bright and show the port i'm using, but after the entire ring is on but very dim.  I'm just thinking that this will waist battery power.  Are those controllers defective?  The other 2 I have go totally off.  I've tried swapping the battery pack from one that turns totally off with one that stays dim, and it doesn't follow the battery pack.

Anyone else have this happen?/

i noticed that too...i don't see it being a ig problem tho.  i mean they are so dim and leds draw so little power anyway i can't imagin it having afect on things like battery life.

I too have seen this with a brand new pack, the problem did follow my battery pack.  I popped the case apart and saw some pretty cold solder joints on the surface mount components.  Soldered them and is as good as new.  The 8 legged tssop seemed to make the difference, but I continued to reflow all solder joints.  As for power drain, I didn't notice this problem until the next day and the battery has yet to need a recharge.  The 2100mAh NiMH batteries from Sanyo seem to kick like an engergizer!!

Welp, it has to be the controller.  I tried disconnecting the battery pack for a few secs, and the LEDs still come on dimmly when I plug in the pack.  I also tried another battery pack, as well as a couple sets of new batteries, with the same results.

I also noticed that even while using the controller, all the off LEDs are still dimmly lit.

But I guess the LEDs can't be using too much battery power, and I really don't want to open the controllers and start soldering.

Thanks for the replys!

Yes, it would be your controller in your case, just wanted to add an alternative spin to show that others with different reasons have the same problem.  I would be curious if you have tested this also with just the standard battery pack to see what happens.

I'm in Aus and i have a wireless controller from when i bought the xbox 360 vip premiere pack (not the actual premium bundle as its not out yet). For anyone who is confused about what this pack is, check here. It was kinda like a teaser. Came with a wireless controller, faceplate, perfect dark zero and a dvd full of trailers. Anyway enough of that.

While playing around with my controller, i also noticed that when the batteries are in, there is a slight glow. I turn it on and get the flashing, then i press connect and it spins, but i can't turn it off again, probably cos it hasn't found an xbox 360 cos i don't have one.

Anyway, i don't think it'd be that bad, so don't worry about it, but u say only 2 of ur 4 controllers did it? Weird
