Worth Getting Worried Over One Crash?
« on: December 10, 2005, 05:54:00 PM »

Hey people  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For the first time since owning my console since launch date in the uk (2nd december) my Xbox 360 Crashed.

It happened when playing the Full Auto Demo which came with the Official Xbox 360 Mag. I was racing along, crashed and used time shift to attempt it again and once I finished pressing time shift to go back to racing the console just hung. No error message, no error lights. I couldnt get the Xbox Guide up or anything, just frooze. The power button worked and turned the console off, turned back on all fine.

Since then I have played the demo about 20 odd times (fantastic game it really is) and it hasnt crashed since, nor have I had any problems with PDZ or Halo 2 on my 360.

Is it worth worrying about or is it one of those things? My Gamecube has crashed before, dunno if to suspect hardware fault or just the fact I was playing a demo of an unfinished game.

Your feedback will hopefully releive a now worried gamer  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Thanks.

More than likely it's the demo. My first gen XBOX never froze when playing games, but it did have the rare freeze when I played the OXM demos. Until your games start freezing, I'd say you're fine.

i wouldnt be worried about it if it only happened once. does your xbox360 error when you run the demo everytime? try it with a real game, if it repeatedly error's, then you may have yourself a faulty box.

I had my 360 since launch 2nd of december. Played all the way through COD2. I think somewere at50-60% of the game the xbox froze. Just turned it off and back on. I could resume the game and the xbox has not frozen since that one time. I also am playing kameo atm and im 50% done i think. Didnt frezze on kameo either.

So im not worrying. It has a 2 year garantee so untill its modable i will keep it closed. When it freezes more the next year or so. Its back to ms with it. But untill that happens. I wouldnt worry.
I love the machine .. :-) love.gif

Mine crashed on the OXM coverdisc last night.  It's also crashed a few times on Fifa.  I think that's Lives/EAs fault though.

Chill.  Unless it starts happening all the time of course...

Mine just froze while playing Perfect Dark today.  If it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't sweat it.  I remember my PS2 and Gamecube freezing right when I first got them, but haven't had problems with them since  (It's been a while too; I got Gamecube in 2001 and PS2 in 2002).

Dont cause a fuss over a single crash (yes that DOES rhyme).

Most probably shoddy programming on SEGA's part.

Ive had mine crash once when i tried to access a player profile while waiting in a PGR3 multiplayer Lobby.

Ive had nothing else happen though. If i find that OXM with the Full Auto demo around here, im gona go buy it and try it out. Ive seen trailers of the game and it seems too hawt to pass by. Will post if mine crashes during the demo.

After thinking it was all ok after the one crash during Full Auto, it crashed twice in the past 3 days  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

One was when I was playing Super Monkey Ball DX for Xbox under Emulation on my 360. It crashed just like when Full Auto did, with the Guide not responding, but the power button working and no red lights.

The second was when I was letting my cousin who was round for Christmas play his new game (Shadow the Hedgehog for Xbox) on my 360. He was entering level 3 and the unit just suddenly hung. (It crashed in the exact same way Full Auto and Monkey Ball did)

Theres only one thing I can see in common with all 3 of these crashes, it was during a Sega Game. All 3 of them were created by Sega. But its weird, one was an actual 360 title, but a demo of an unfinished game, the other two were Xbox games running under emulation.

I havent yet experienced any crashes during Perfect Dark Zero or the two demo's i got from Xbox Live (Kameo and Need for Speed).

Im starting to get worried now, I really thought I had a bug free unit. I keep telling myself in my head that its just due to the emulation being buggy (monkey ball and shadow) and running an unfinished product (full auto) and that such bugs will be fixed at a later date. I'm just so hoping its just a software bug, not a hardware fault. Surely a hardware fault would bring up the red lights on the front?

Thanks people for your advice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

if its only a few times as you say i wouldnt worry about it that much, i got my 360 a day B4 launch and its only froze about 5 times, 2X in NFS, 1X in COD2, 1X in THAW, and 1X in king kong, im starting to think its more a DVD drive problem than anything, maybe it cant handle the request to the certain place of the disc once in a while, who knows, i wouldnt blame it on a game unless it was the same spot all the time but if its been random and only a few times i wouldnt worrie about it, halo 2 hasnt froze once yet

Well, I'm not so sure about that because mine has frozen up while playing from DVD drive AND Bankshot Billiards from the HDD so who knows what the deal is. blink.gif
