Wireless Controller + Play And Charge Kit
« on: December 04, 2005, 04:02:00 AM »

i was wondering, if i get a wireless controller and then i get a play and charge kit, would i be able to connect the wireless controller to my pc and use it as a pc gamepad.... or will i be able to connect my wireless controller to my pc if i have some sort of wireless usb adapter on my pc.... and one more thing, does the play and charge kit come with a battery pack, or is it just the cable to connect ur wirelless controller to the xbox 360....
please help and post pics of the play and charge kit so i can get an idea of what it looks like.. thanks in advance  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

oh, and how do you put normal batteries in a wireless controller? i mean do you have to remove like a lid and then insert the batteries? or do you have to remove a hollow battery pack-like thing and then put the batteries in there and then click the battery pack that now has batteries inside, into the controller.? and can you change the batteries from the battery pack that comew with the play and charge kit or is that battery pack sealed?... i hope you can understand what i wrote.... tongue.gif

The play and charge kit is just a dribble charger for the battery - it doesn't convert your controller into a wired device - it just charges the battery so that even a dead battery won't get the controller out of your lifeless hands.

The controllers come with a double barreled battery holder which you insert the batteries into and then insert into the controller. The battery pack is a sealed unit and just plugs straight onto the controller in place of the AA battery holder.

When you plug into a PC, it asks for the Driver for the device, so it seems possible. I haven't looked for the drivers yet, but it does seem possible. (BTW...it wll charge the controller via PC also!)

Thats not entirely accurate. Thats why it's called the play and charge kit.

The manual for the play and charge kit clearly states that when you plug in the charger, the controller remains in wireless mode and charges whilst you play, albeit more slowly than if you just left it alone.

I suspect that there will possibly be a driver for windows, but that would just allow the device to charge the controller and that the usb device is just the charger declaring its presence to allow the xbox to acknowledge it and feed power to it.

Just my thoughts!

Doesn't work, in order to turn the power on in the controller it tries to start-up the console.  This ( http://www.micro soft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/download.mspx - take space out of microsft to work as it's trying to send to ms.com which is morgan stanley  grr.gif  ) is where I finally found the driver from MS, but it's only going to work for the wired version <> wireless controller + play and charge kit.

THe play and charge kit lets you play as it charges. It does not make it a wired controller. It will charge threw the usb on your computer but it wont interface with the computer like the wired controller. The computer doesnt even find drivers for it when connected. I just tried.

Ok I have tried every combination of things and this is how it works.  The wireless controller will only work in wireless mode.  The cable only has the ability to charge the controller.  While it is plugged in it is still using the wireless connection to controll the system.  You can plug the usb end of the play and charge kit into any usb hub to charge the controller (I used my computer since I'm still hunting for the 360 and it worked fine.)  If you do not have a 360 the only way to turn the controller off is to pull the battery.  With the system hitting the guide button (green logo one) you can shut off teh system, I guess the xbox 360 sends a signal to teh controller to shut off as well.

Downloading the XP drivers for the controller will only work if you have the wired version.  You can not use the wireless controller on your computer as of this time.   Here are 2 pictures the first shows what you get in the play and charge kit (wire and rechargable battery pack).  The second shows the open controller as well as the battery compartment for AA or rechargable AA batteries.

If I buy a wireless controller, does it come with a rechargable battery pack or does it come with batteries?
