I too had the dreaded black screen with multiple language error messages when I try to boot the console yesterday . I called 1-800-4my xbox and they are sending a box for me to return the unit. I went to a local video store Videotron in Repentigny, Quebec and the guy said to replace the a/v cable and it works!!! No more death screen!!!

I hope this works for you people who are having the same problem....BTW the 360 never froze prior to it's near death but it ressucited by changing only the a/v cable
