I ended up just dremeling the white plastic ring out about 1/16" all the way around the ring.  Works great now. tongue.gif

By actually reading the thread.

Thank you for the helpful answer... as helpful as a kick in the nuts.
Applying pressure and just pushing around on the pad only works for maybe 10 seconds.
(Which I've done already)
I'm wondering if people are centering this some other way...

Nope, the centering is just applying pressure to the d-pad in the opposite direction it is hitting.  And like you wrote, it returns back to the way it was.

okay.. bummer... then its not working.  sad.gif
I'm willing to take the thing apart and sand away.. but would have to go look at the info on taking these things apart.
The madcatz controllers look pretty nice, as far as the directional pad.

Wow, I actually have a screwdriver in a smaller precision set, that kind of fits
in the screws...  2.4 m/m and with careful unscrewing, I can get these things out!  sweet!

...eh... got 2 out.. its too hard to get these things up.. dont want to strip these things out.. I think I'll give
up for now.. smile.gif

Yeeha!  I just stopped over at Target and took one more chance buying a controller.

I opened it and immediately pushed right... 'click' 'click'... the sound of plastic on plastic.
"Oh crap.. another one"  I said.
I powered up the system, and it works perfect even though the plastic
directional hits to the right.

... I even may go out on a limb and say that it feels better than my original working controller that
I had!

No more M$ controllers for me.. I'm going to try a different
brand if I need a 3rd controller.  I ended up buying 3 defective M$ ones before I got one that worked.
Thats pretty sad.

My posts on this thread are done!  (hopefully)

I saw a post a while back where someone had swapped out the th d-pad and analogs with an Xbox 1 S-Type. They did it for looks but I guess they said the d-pad was much more accurate after the fact

it might be worth it to find some cheap used S-types for the swap... too bad the black d-pad uglyfies the controller  rolleyes.gif

Maybe you should have specified who "that guy" was. Oh well, I'll probobly just buy a new controller and (assuming it works fine) return the one I got with my console as the one I purchased.

Does anyone know if MS has fixed the problem with the gamepads? I am waiting to purchase a new one when I am certain that I will buy a controller with a dpad working smoothly.

I got a replacement in the mail and it seems like they did somewhat fix the issue (or i got lucky). The d-pad went 'in" quicker and in result the xbox reconized the input. The only flaw i felt was that the controller felt 'used" because the analog stick are sooooo lose is like someone played halo2 for a least a year or something. But... only flaw.

PS: that glowing Ring of light crap while off is still there (this is with the rechargable batt)

I've got 6 wireless conroller and 1 wired... all have the d-pad problem, either I'm the unluckiest person or they haven't fixed the design yet.

You people should try the Hori ex turbo pad for 360, I hear the pad on it is perfect and very precise.
