Just look at the space between the shell and the d-pad on the s-controller compared to the 360's.  There is much more room on the s-controller.

I think the clicking of plastic on plastic is almost as bad as it not registering.  I constantly find myself screwing up making text messages or inputing text into anything.

Obviously there's not enough space in the damn ring.  So even if you send it in, the next one will do the same thing.  The only solution I see is to sand the inside edge of the ring until it doesn't hit anymore.  But if you screw it up, then you don't have the warranty on it.

Got this problem too. I have 2 wireless controllers, and one of them has trouble pressing "up" and the other one has trouble pressing "down". I have to keep telling myself to press extra hard to get the button press to register.

So... Has anyone tried contacting MS on the matter?

i had the problem too but then then i found i could slide the enitre d pad around inside the shell. so i slid it to the center and it works perfect now, on both my wired and my wireless controllers.

i noticed this problem on day 1. i always use my dpad to navigate through menus and to type in text so i noticed it right away. up, down, and right work fine but left i have to add more pressure to in order for it to register

hey i gave that a shot and it worked! if you just apply some even solid pressure on the dpad with a little downforce it will slide around a little bit, just enough to center it. good for the controller? im not a doctor, but its still working fine!    smile.gif

Hmm I'll have to try that again... I'd noticed I could slide it around but it felt like it moved back to the side after using it a little...

I wonder if they all actually come centered and if you play it too hard you move it around?

I've actually been doing this myself and the problem is that eventually it will slide back to being off centered.  I haven't tried it yet but the only real "solution" seems to be shaving the ring down a bit.

Yep, exactly.  I can push the hell out of the d-pad in the opposite direction, but it adventually goes back.
