Yeah press the guide button, and look in the top left of the panel-see that tiny battery meter? M$ couldnt bother to tell you about it in the manual. I dont think what your controller is doing is normal. I have a problem with mine where it makes the #2 light glow very dim when the controller is off. This is with the play and charge kit battery. Anyone else get this?

Yeah, that is going on with mine right now, I am almost positive that it is cuz of the Batteries, because  the little battery symbol in the top left corner of the Guide is low.

Plus does anyone know if the play & charge kit will charge your batteries when the system is off???

if you turn off your system with the play and charge plugged into the controller it WILL continue to charge with the system off

yes hes right, the controller will continue to "trickle" charge, but only if plugged in before the system is shut off.

the "trickle" effect is less than adequate.  the 360 will stay on a few minutes after you turn it off.  the fans will remain running but the ring of light is out. then after a couple minutes, the fans turn off and the light on the play and charge kit light turns off.  it took ~ 3-4 hours of playtime for my battery to fully charge the first time.  why couldn't they make a damn AC adapter too?

i dont know but for some reason my play and charge kit seems to charge my battery in like 1 hour  it stays red for about 1 hour then goes to green. from what i read that means that its done charging, but i can only play for about 2-3 hours before it starts to cycle the green lights indication that batt is low.also after i power off the system thru the controller the lights turn off but after like a minute a dim green light stays on in #3
