Haha, that is fucking amazing, indeed.

But yeah, I've actually heard other reports that it does work.  He's got a point....if it's broken already, what harm can it do?

see, no joke, i told you it works. i just want credit for this fix when MS releases a press release telling people to punch their xbox 360s to get it to work!

but yeah, each time i smack it, i get a few hours of play time, then it freezes again.

i think its a mixture of the xbox and power brick overheating and possibly some chips not seated that well.

Is your xbox in the vertical or horizontal position?

There is a modicum of validity to this violent solution.  Apparently, the gyroscope that determines what direction the 360 is standing in gets stuck for some people.  When the gyroscope thinks the system is standing, but the system is horizontal, the system locks up (disc doesn't spin or whatever).  A simple tap on the side usually dislodges the stuck gyroscope and people are happy again.

If it continues to lock-up then this is not a fix.

the case protects the chips from static discharge. rubbing your feet on the carpet and touching the case of the 360 will not harm it in any way,...i walk around in socks on my carpet holding the 360 all the time its ok to do. plus the case does not conduct

SO am I the only one that has a mental pic of an underweight adolescent geek walking around in socks and sweatpants, cuddling his 360, with his head hunched over, smiling?
