360 Wireless Controller Green Light Won't Turn Off

They seem to be different, then.  Mine always has specific quadrant(s) lit, and on the last page I posted test results with battery life.

Thank you very much!  I check this thread probably every other day (I'll admit it; I've got OCD).  I'll try this.  If it works, it also gives a little insight into where the problem really lies in the controller/battery itself.

can anybody tell me why it is that after i hold the guide button and select turn off controller, the controller doesnt shut off and remains on, functional and everything... uhh.gif

That only happens to me when I try it on a wired controller or have the play and charge kit plugged into a wireless one.  They will not shut off.  That is normal under those conditions.

i got the same problem, only sector #3 glowed all day long; darker when the battery was drained. _but_ i tested a bit and found a workaround:

IPB Image
1.) take a sticky tape (you'll have to cut it small)
or take the opening flap ( the thing you pull to open a plastic cover from dvd or cigarettepack - dont know it's called in english wink.gif ) like i did.

2.) stick it over the 3rd contact from left (the blue one on the image)

3.) put the batterypack back in your controller

thats it. the glow of light is gone, and the controller works. _but_ when the battery is empty, you'll have to take the tape off to charge it.
i hope that this workaround works for you too...

Rather than putting it on the battery pack, I put it on the second controller contact, works like a charm.  Then you can put your battery in the quickcharger without removing anything.  Nice find!  What is that contact for?

It looks as if that contact is for charging.  I also have the same problem.  Just bought a C&P kit or whatever you call it and I noticed the glowing in 1st quadrant.  I can't use the sticky tape or I can't charge it.  Well I guess I could every time I wanted to charge it but then it would be a pain in the ass.

If anyone finds out it's a capacitor or something please let us know.  I could probably attempt changing it. smile.gif

How things have changed in just over a year, there weren't that many people here with the issue when I first wrote, but lots more of you have come to light - no pun intended - now.

For the record I still have the same Battery and Charger Kit, and changed the controller and no longer have the issue, so I think the issue lies with controller itself.

Just going off-topic for a bit:

After being an owner of the original launch console I'm sorry to say that my original 360 succombed to the dreaded ring of death.  Since then I've had nothing but trouble with replacement consoles, the first one I've had didn't even attempt to play a game disc, it just made a horrible noise - kinda like it was eating my disc, but thankfully nothing happened to the disc itself, no scratches etc. - I then had another console where by I'd power it up, but nothing would appear on the screen, and only the power light on the console light would appear, no quadrant light on the console would be lit, and all four lights on the controller would just flash as if you'd accidentally turned the controller on without using your 360 console.  It got to the point where I'd have to power the console on and off about 3 times before it would finally start properly.  Sometimes it would come up with the error screen E69 or E67, removed the HDD but still failed to start correctly.

I got fed up of this and decided to replace the console as faulty, and got another replacement, this one booted up fine, however just about a month later this console too now is exhibiting the same symptoms, I've now got another replacement which I'm hoping to try tonight - I'm not giving up on the 360 as I love it too much, but I'm finding this increasingly frustrating, perhaps one faulty console I could understand but 3 in a row, jesus!

Has anyone had any similar issues?

This is just odd for me.  Everyone is talking about specific lights being on.  When I shut down my controller holding down the Xbox button it and choosing shut down, the Xbox turns off, but I always have 4 rings lit up.  I have 5 different battery packs and have tested them all on the bad controller (go figure it is the black one and I have 4 white ones).   The four other controllers I have all work properly using any of the batteries.  I have been working on this problem for almost a year now, but this is the first time I have found something online.  If anyone has any suggestions that I can try, I will.  I have the tools to take apart the controller, the play and charge kit, and any tools that I might need.  I would rather void the warranty so we can get our problems solved then send it in for repairs.  Thanks for any help in advance.
