Anyone else having horrible problems trying to browse/post on this board? I had an old login, but don't remember it exactly, and I keep having to wait 10 minutes while the board is too busy. Shouldn't the insane amount of ads on the front page suggest this board is on a server that can handle some bandwidth? Anyway...

I think this might be quite important. My 360 works completely as advertised (so far... though I obviously jynxed it now).

The production date is *way* different. Perhaps an important detail:
October 21, 2005. Purchased in Portland, OR at a Best Buy. Works great with PGR3 and Perfect dark, movies, CD/iPod, live, and those 2D demos you can download. Have had it on for 3-4 hours many times by now, heh. Fans are loud, but Its right next to me, in a small room. The back gets kind of warm, not worse than my laptop, bottom too. Sides are cool (air intake on the sides).

It is important that if we are going to be documenting this incident we should do it as fully as possible.

Apart from the Manufacturing date, users with borked xboxes should also post the place they bought the console from, the type of system they got (core or prenium), wether they have ran games via backwards compatibility, wether they have recieved an upgrade via live.

Users with perfectly working consoles should also do the same. This way we might find a pattern between the broken consoles.

Another question. I have read many times that MS uses 2 different manufacturing plants for the XBOX 360 making process. Is the plant of origin for each console indicated anywhere on the Box or the documentation, or not? Knowing which plant made the console would be very very helpfull.

On the xbox.com forums, we went through quite a bit of this.

Seems to have no relationship at all. Dates are totally random, with good/bad ones on the same days.

Which plant it was made in, if we can find that, would be very useful. What store it was from (I've heard reports of large amounts being dropped and stuck on the shelves anyway because of the shortage), and perhaps what part of the country. Using a harddrive? Do the air intake/output fans all work properly? And obviously, don't even post yet if your xbox is on the carpet or simillar.

I had the same problem with my 360.  3 red lights with the top right light not on.  I read a post on this forum earlier where someone recommended hitting it on the sides to fix the problem, and sure enough, giving it a little slap on the side (or its top if yours isnt standing up) fixed my error.  Not sure what the reason for this problem is, but mabey something was lined up wrong and causing the 360 to short out.  I wanted to open it up and find out but i think i might need that warrenty if there are more problems.  So, give your 360 a little smack and see if it starts up again.

Btw my 360's manufacturing date is October 10.

The "luv tap" trick seems to have help alot of people... could it be the sensor that detects which position the console is in gets stuck and so the system halts?

What else could be cured with a slap except big mouths!
