Defective Xbox 360 ?

Greetings Everyone,

I'm a bit happy to see that I'm not the only one with the damn 3 Red Light Problems (1, 3 and 4). After using the guide enclosed on this forum, I've been able to know the secondary code is 0020. I've tried anything, like unplugging the HDD, unplugged all of the cable from wall and Xbox and then plug everything, still no success...

It will work like 1 time out of 15, and when it work, I can play for 1 hour, maybe 2, without any problems.

So, what could it be? Is the cleaning technique post right before mine works great? Or it's just a waste of time. Any feedbacks would be very appreciated.

Thankx to you guys, this forum became by far the greatest and the most serious source over the web, Keep up the good work!!!

Thanksfully, NeoSNIPER

E74 - is a problem with GPU's solder joint. fixed it by reheating the GPU until the solderballs meltdown or replace the solderballs.
E76 - replace the Ethernet Port's controller chip
E79 - usually started with mozaic graphic when playing games, same treatment as E74
E64 - DVD Drive Error maybe misplaced or accidentally swapped
E68 - HDD Error
010X, 002X, done with same treatment as E74
you can do it with some help from a friend experienced in using HeatGun or SMD rework station or BGA rework station, never try the towel trick, i burn 2 GPUs with that trick, try reheating by plugging the fan's socket & dismount the wind tunnel, until it turns into 2RL & wait until the fan stops, wait 5 minutes, mount the wind tunnel to it's place, then turn it on, see if it works.
0110 definitely cannot be fixed, damaged lines from GPU to RAM (see the lines going from GPU to RAM on your motherboard).

damn those xbox360 like to rrod.... pfff tried a few tutorials but didn't fix mine.

Anyway, my x360 is out of warranty (only 2 years here) that's why I tried it myself

I did the x-clamp replacement.

I used 2 different types of thermal paste : OCZ thick thermal paste and Zalman thermal paste (thinner)

The problem I had was that when I played or watched a WMV of MP4 the xbox360 would FREEZE the picture after about 20 minutes, then I have to turn it off -> then on and RROD, after half an hour it works and then again 20 minutes and freeze...

I did the x-clamp tut with the baking and stuff and at exactly the same time around 20minutes it freezes and after the when you turn off and then on RROD ... with secondary error code 0022.

I also tried the 12v mod with extra fans on maximum speed but this doesn't help anything.

I tried the creditcard/phonecard pieces around cpu and gpu but then my xbox360 froze after 5 minutes !!! and then turn on/off RROD with same error code 22.

Could it be the thermal paste ? do you really need special one ? As I use those with good results in my computers. Or is it a soldering / bending problem ?

Thanks for listening !

Just wanna throw this out there, as it might not be a great sign.  I have one of the "new" 360s, lot 0818, team CSON, with the new Lite-on drives, manuf. approximately 5/08.  I've had it for 40 days, and played it sporadically, always out of it's cabinet when on, and ventilated cabinet open for a few hours immediately after use.  I tried to play today, for the first time in 2 days, and immediate RROD, error code 0022.  Hopefully it's just a lemon, but we'll see.

All right.... I have a 360 that is giving a 1 red light and an E74 and 1022 error codes. According to the lists it could be one of 3 things:

AV cable
X-Clamp
ANA/HANA chip

I checked it with three different cables (including a colling unit w/ av hookups) so I think I can say that is out. So what I want to know is what are the chances that is is x-clamp? I've successfully done the x-clamp fix on another unit so if its that it's just $17 in parts and an hours work. If its the ANA/HANA chip on the other hand, I have no idea. Is that even repairable?

Anyone got any ideas?

What does it usually mean when the middle green LED constantly blinks? It blinks constantly even if I disconnect the DVD drive.

i just recieved 2 boxes to repair for friends, both had error code 0031 (unknown).
i tried the towel trick on both to see if they was worth opening, the towel trick worked so i opened them and baked em,i noticed that the gpu heated up much faster than the cpu on 1 of the boxes, and on the other box the cpu heated up much faster than the gpu.

both boxes seemed to have good contact with the chips and heatsinks,i have come across loose heatsinks in the past but repaired with x-clamp fix.

yousty - if the green light is blinking, then you probably have a problem with the cable going to your DVD-ROM. The problem could lie within the drive itself, or even the motherboard, but always go for the easiest fix first. The green light blinks when the drive i unplugged, or if it's a Hitachi in modeb. If you were recently messing with the system, you may have put the power cable in backwards...which would most likely kill your drive.

I've recently run into a problem and I cannot find the light pattern on the error code guide.
I bought my somewhere around Decemeber2006/January2007. (I don't have it on me, can't get exact details)

For quite some time now, my games, even brand new games, would show up in the 360 as "DVD". Sometimes even when it recognizes what the game is it will do it when I try to play.
When I try to play them it gives the white screen with "Please insert this disc into an xbox360"...even though it's IN a 360. Annoying mostly, takes a few tries before the disc will spin up and play (Figured the dvd drive is sucking/dirty)

I hooked it up today and when I turned it on, it froze up in the middle of the loading screen. The other day it froze up in the middle of fallout3 loading screen.
When I boot up without my camera and without my harddrive, I get LED4 blinking red and the "E71" error code.
With the harddrive in (regardless of camera in/out) I get LED1,2,3 blinking red and nothing on the screen.
Now the E71 (dashboard update failure?) would make sense if it needed the harddrive to load stuff (i've been doing the LIVE updates up until a few days ago when I lost internet) But I do not see the 1,2,3 red light pattern even listed? (Have Photo if needed)

Any thoughts on this? I am calling MS support later with fingers crossed that they will take it. I've done no mods to void the warranty.
