Defective Xbox 360 ?
« Reply #751 on: February 28, 2008, 11:44:00 PM »

I followed the guide with the "press sync up, then press eject, release eject and press again"-stuff.

But I got this:
4-4-2-4   3-4-4-2   4-3-4-4   2-4-3-4   4-2-4-3

Is this maybe:

4-4-2-4   3   4-4-2-4  3   4-4-2-4   3   4-4-2-4   3

?

Why did I get it four times?

So this error is maybe 0020?
What is it, and is it hard to fix by yourself?

I got my 360 back from microsoft like a week ago for having the rrod but sometimes when i put Rockband, Or Guitar Hero 3 in it takes a while to load and when it finally loads it shows a white screen saying " Please place disk into an Xbox 360 console to play". What does this message mean? usually i just restart the 360 and then i put the same disk in and it works properly. Is there something wrong with my 360 or is it the game? Will this scratch all the games i put in? Please help!!

To see what message shows up watch this video:

Note:This is not me

Hey Peeps

Just bought two Xbox 360 Core Bundles from Futureshop here in Canada.

One of them always crashes while loading games, but plays DVD movies fine.

Anyone else have a defective console??

So contact customer support, or provide some more information about your system.

Hey guys, I have read a lot of this topic to understand the problems and the best solutions for them. I have a broken 360 on my hands that is reading a code of 0102 and we have done the X clamps fix and a moded version of the 12 cents fix (4 cents, I put a penny on top of each of those cooling pads and some artic silver in there) and I have overheated it again and let it cool but it still reads 0102. so I screwed them down harder and tryed again but still 0102. Any ideas?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

same prob here. there was too much of a space between the heatsnik and the cpu and gpu. you need to use less washers. they need to sit against eachother. you could also not be using enought arctic silver, or too much of it.

I just tryed romoving a set of washers to make it a tighter fit. I am overheating it right now and it is giveing me a code of 0020 while its doing this. I will update after the overheating is done.

Something I noticed during my troubleshooting of error code 0020.
I changed my AV cable and Power cable, then got  3 blinking red lights.
Normally from my original cables I get 4 blinking red lights twice, then 3 blinking red lights.
The error code remained the same (0020).

Hi guys this is just for the few of you that have the 3 rings of death on your 360, I recently had this problem but as I am cheap I had no warranty so i set about to find a cure for it.
!!ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE NO WARRANTY!!
All you will need is:
1 T-8 Torx screwdriver
1 T-10 Torx screwdriver
Plastic scraper tool or pocket knife
Arctic Silver or other brand high quality heat sink paste
Some sort of thermal paste cleaner
Metal skewer ( thin enough to go through the ventalation holes in the side of the casing)
Small size negative screw driver
Toothbrush
cotton bud

Firstly disconect all accessories and leads, then remove your HDD(if you have one).
Now you will be taking off the outer shell and the top and bottom covers, if you do not know how to do this then here is the link !ENTER THE CASE!.
Once inside the case you will need to remove all hardware including the RF unit, then lift the motherboard gently and slowly out. Once again here is the link, !REMOVING THE HARDWARE!.
Once the motherboard is out you should see what is called XCLAMPS on the other side of the motherboard the easiest way to remove these is to have the smallest negative screwdriver you have (blunt), wedge it in the outer corner of the link and pry it outwards and it will eventualy flex and pop off, once one of them is off then get the opostite corner off aswell this should then make the xclamp just slide off, once you have them both off then the heatsinks should just lift off, once you have them off you may see like a plastic substance in the bottom or even tin foil, either way srape as much as u can off then use your cleaning fluid and cotton buds to clean it off. Now to clean the GPU/CPU and components, you may see that the old thermal compound has run along the chips and components, use a small piece of plastic to scrape parts of the old compound off but dont knock any of the components, once u have removed all u can then apply a small amount of cleaning fluid to a cotton bud and start to rub around the chipset cleaning the old compound off but remember to change the cotton bud every 30secs or so depending on the amount of old compound on the bud.
Once you have removed all that you can from the chipset you will find that the main face of the chipset will still be smeard with old melted compound, now get a dry toothbrush and start slowly and softly brushing away at the chipset, you will find that the main face will start to become shiny and also the components will look a lot cleaner, if you do have any problems removing any old compound then add a bit of fluid to the toothbrush.
Now all is cleaned apply a bit of new thermal compound to each chipset face slightly smearing it accros the face, now re-atatch the heatsinks with the xclamps and re-mount the motherboard with the hardware and do not forget the RF unit.
If you strugle with remembering how to put it all back together then use the links above to track back.
Once you have finished try your xbox now, if you still have the red lights then leave it on for about 10 mins if you still have it then try wrapping your console in a towel for about 5 mins (NOT TOO LONG) this will help the fans reach full speed and start to heat the components and chips up so the new thermal compound has chance to start working.
I hope this helps you, please reply if you have any problems or if it worked for you.
