Defective Xbox 360 ?

Should we expect more from a company that uses it's customers to beta test their products? NO. I hope those who stood in line like ants enjoyed the wait smile.gif

Well first off, I'm a PC gamer but a m$ xbox fan for being modable and allowing me to store 50 games on a hdd.. I don't plan on getting a 360 anymore since I spent so much on a 7800 gt OC'd at GTX speeds ;) ..

Anyways, I just tried out Most Wanted, and not only do I think it sucks but after about 10 mins my comp locked right up and it's never done that on any other game.. and the whole time I'm playing it it kept jerking randomly. Does it jerk on the x360 too??

If I'm going guess as to why, well I noticed my Hdd light flashing a lot even with EA tracks off. I think the hdd doesn't have enough seek speed since they are cheap WD's in raid but they are 7200 rpm.. but it shouldn't need to access the hdd drive anyways since since I have 2 gig of ram and the TaskMan says there was only 700mb used when I had the game running..

but I remember joking to a friend a few days before 360 launch "I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't BSOD in some way after releasing, since they rushed it out for xmas instead of taking their time like sony is"..

but m$ won't care, and I'd be surprised if they "recalled" them and replaced everyones x360 with a better one.. The way I see this it's like buying a $20 mobo and after using it a few days a chip on the board fries taking out a drive controller, a sound chip, or the entire thing.. It's like playing on trash hardware, and I won't waste money on it until the next revision and when theres a mod chip for it :)

QUOTE(zbornac @ Nov 23 2005, 10:02 AM)
Starting at about 4 o'clock Mountain time my 360 quit reading games.  No error codes, and dashboard functions are still going.  Have yet to try old Xbox games.

I get the same screen that you get when you put a 360 game in a original Xbox when I put games into my 360.

Started with PGR3 and Kameo, then progressed to THAW, King Kong, Perfect Dark, and Madden.  Every one of them says I need to put it in a Xbox 360 to play it.  Already alerted Gamestop and they will have one midweek next week for me to replace it.

Anyone heard of this one?  I'll admit I didn't read the thread, just saw the link on the main page for reporting errors, so if someone else has, I apologize.

Can it be that it recognizes it as a xbox game and tries to run the emulator and then the emulator sais insert it in a 360?

Try removing the hdd and try again...

Not quite.  Either I, or friends, have been playing the console I purchased for about 8 hours straight.. and no crashing problems.

The only issue I've run across is this:
In PGR3, when I am playing music (this is required to happen) and I exit back to the dashboard, after confirming to go to the dashboard, the Xbox will freeze at that screen.

There will be no error codes, just a simple lockup.  DVD tray still ejects via remote and can power off.

This is the only problem I've experienced in 8-10 hours of continuous play, which I am sure can easily be fixed through an Xbox Live Patch via updates.

So with the errors, do i have all of them down?
-3/4 red blinky lights
-game crashes (especially in PGR3)
-system bootup crashes
-360's refusal to play 360 games (i.e the "please put this game in an xbox 360")
-that thing on the xboxscene homepage with the single letter next to some 2-digit number  and all these languages on screen and lines goin' thru it.

Ah no, you are missing the error i'm getting! After about 10-15 minutes gameplay, I started getting the texture smearing and "sparklies" as was reported a while back on xbox-scene on one of the kiosk machines. Seemed like a video card or video ram overheating issue so I put a 80mm case fan I had already wired up to a power brick for 12v behind the 360's exhaust fan blowing out. That fixed it mostly. After playing an hour or so it seemed ok, maybe one or two off pixels here and there. I don't know that it couldn't have developed into one of the other issues if I didn't add the fan... and I don't know if playing longer it will still blow up some other way. I'll find out today, I took the day off work to play biggrin.gif

My 360 locked up when I went to play a song included on the hdd. I turned it off and back on and have not had a problem since. I played PDZ for 2 hours after that with no problems and then played some of the music again with no problems. Prolly just a fluke....I hope!!!!

I just bought a Harddrive and clicked it in, now when I boot up the xbox I get an E67 Error.  I disconnect it and the xbox works fine.  I havent called support yet because of the wait time, anyone getting E67 errors?

but heres my question about the bugs and stuff; all the game magazines....(EGM, OXM, Gamepro, GameInformer, none have put out warnings....not even G4 (Videogame T.V) who has obviously had 360s' far in advance...haven't been experiencing these errors...WTF? is M$ giving the press the 30 good models and then slacking off on the US launch?M$ is screwing with our minds.......i think i've figured it out and i will explain it smarter than some M$ rep could:
The 360's power is only exceeded by its mystery; and its mystery is only exceeded by its power...in other words...its a powerful system but theres all this mystery on whats causing the bugs...M$ obviously didn't test the systems before they sent them off.....

You don't know what your talking about. MS shipped over a million units - so far the majority of them aren't experiencing any problems whatsoever. There is very little chance of a major problem affecting all the xbox's, or 10-15% of them, or else we'd of heard of it by now - everyone's would be broke and they'd all be complaining. Why would the media put out warnings if 99.5%+ of the xbox's are fine?

MS does a pretty thorough testing process before they ship them. Look it up. Since mine seems ot recover after smacking it, I assume something came loose during shipping. My screen just goes black, not freeze in NES style as some people report tongue.gif. It's only frozen once during 12 hours or so of gameplay gameplay - my major problem is getting it to boot back up after I turn it off. After smacking it very, very hard, it seems mostly recovered though I'm still exchanging it ASAP.

Anyone wondering to buy one or not - wait until stock is normal so there's one to exchange yours for it you receive a dud. And buy the $20 warranty so you can exchange it for MS's fixed up hardware in a year wink.gif!! But go buy one if you want, as I said most people's xbox's are perfectly fine.

Damn...  I think I'll wait til I pick mine up...

As a computer guy, I feel obligated to put in my two cents as to what the problem is.  Though I'm sure that this has been thought of, I didn't see it posted yet.  It sounds like it is a problem with the SATA controller (north/south bridge?).  Based on people saying they have removed the hard drive and it works for them, and problems reading the DVD-ROMs.  So...  there's my two cents...

I have mine reserved at a Gamestop two hours away from me (long story).  With (a northeast Ohio) Winter coming, maybe I'll just wait til it's generally available (next April) and buy it then...

Hahaha, what did you expect when M$ pressed Perfect Dark Zero before it passed certification? Honestly, if they take those kinds of risks at the gamers expense... The rushing and marketing (of the two versions of the console so they could brag about a price point) was why I didn't get one. The only upgrade I ever had to do to my N64 was the expansion pak I got free with DK, and never had to upgrade my Xbox, PS2, or Gamecube. Consoles are about standardization, and the xbox 360 failed at that. That and the power supply (which I guess can be used to defend your console if someone wants to steal it; dunno if they'd want to now wink.gif...

Heh, a friend of mine called me today, one that I told not to get one. His is having a problem with a black screen and "weird white scan lines". At least I convinced a few others not to get one smile.gif.

Revolution and PS3 baby biggrin.gif!

This is the main reason why I am waiting for MLB2K6 to come out for 360. I won't get a 360 untill then. There's always problems with systems when they first come out.
