:grr:  Pathetic, they really fukked this first batch up, luckily I didnt pay a cent for mine as it was free. However it still is shitty for the community, my problem is disc read errors and  some spontaneous things that dont seem right eg power on with game disc, console saying put game disc in.

Defective Xbox 360 ?
« Reply #121 on: November 23, 2005, 10:32:00 PM »

Aright guys, hopefully this will help at least a few of you get the system going without overheating problems.  When I first brought the system back to my dorm, i edged my tv towards the middle of my "computer" desk to give some room for the 360 near the edge.  Soooo, i stood it up vertically there, and had the power brick sitting behind it.  The system had about 5 inches on all sides, so stupid me i was thinking that that was proper ventilation (since this wouldve been perfectly acceptable current gen systems).  Anyway, I booted up the system and it was running great, about 4 solid hours of madden.  Then all of a sudden it locks up on the menu screen.  I think no biggie, hopefully just the programming.  I did however touch the 360 on both sides, and it did seem quite warm.  So at this point, I decided to pack it in for the night.  In the morning, I booted up the 360 again, and again got about 3 solid hours out of it then it froze mid game in a game of madden.  At this point i started to get quite pi$$ed, but I still was hoping it was just madden's programming.  Then, a couple hours later PDZ froze about 25 minutes into a multiplayer game.  I was furious, and decided to try to rectify the problem myself.  Before i turned off the system, I feld BETWEEN the power brick and the 360.  And holy $h!t, it felt almost like putting my hand in the oven.  So I decided I really had to reconfigure everything after I gave the system time to cool.  later on in the day I gave the 360 its own 17" x 17" compartment, and put it vertical right in the middle.  So it has roughly 7-8" of ventilation space on each side, and PLENTY of open space behind it.  And here's what I believe may be the key.  I left the power brick ON TOP of the desk, roughly 2 1/2 feet above where the 360 is.  it has plenty of ventilation on the desk when by itself, so this seemed like a good setup.  I then went on to test it.  I played for about an hour and a half last night, and i then let perfect dark loop at the title screen when i went to sleep.  7 hours later, still going without a hitch.  i turned it off, and since then have logged at least 5 hours today, and it stayed on most of the day as i was downloading a demo when i left the house.  Everything is noticably cooler, and it's run without a hitch since then.  So i'd definitely advise everyone to be aware that this system packs some serious punch, and requires much more ventilation space than the older systems.

As I was LITERALLY reading pages on the xbox 360 freezing, my brother calls me up and is like.....my games freeze..... But his is different. Call of duty plays fine, but when he puts perfect dark in, it says "please put in a xbox 360 readable disk" and when he plays madden for a few minutes, it just like stops playing, I forgot if he said if freezes like a still frame of the game or it gets all artifacts on the screen but it stops him from playing. He called MS and they said they been getting a lot of calls for those two games (Perfect Dark and Madden 2006) so Idk I'm going up there tomorrow for thanks giving and I'll check it out myself. But let me know if u guys get that kind of error with those games.  dry.gif

You know when my japanese 1ST SHIPMENT PSP I mean on of the 400,000 available on launch day in japan arrived, I sorta winced when the screen powered on....but all was fine. To this day the unit is perfect. My japanese ps2s are MUCH better build quality then my US PS2. Just my 2 cents buy the Jap console and mod it. Problems solved.

actually just picked mine up from best buy brought it home put in some need for speed played it for i dont know about 10 minutes and in the middle of a race it just hung and the screeen scrambled. so i shut the system off and ejected the disc and seen that now my brand new game is completely scratched with like 6-7 rings all the way around. so yeah i am pissed. anyone else have this problem?

Same damn problem here bro, this shit is wack.  The X360 heats up soo damn quickly it's insane.  3 CPU and you would think the dumbfucks would know to have better vents, that's Microsuck.  Anyway, I have the same problem.  I go to start a race and it freezes in the loading screen.  Dumb.  I sent them an email and have yet to hear from them.  I want mine repaired at no cost to me and quickly.

Defective Xbox 360 ?
« Reply #125 on: November 24, 2005, 12:45:00 AM »

ya know fellas, i just cant stop shaking my head in shame at you people.

1)
havent you people learned a damn thing about hardware ?   Since when can you shove 1 3ghz processor and a MASSIVE GPu into a 12x8 Shell and expect to get proper ventilation enough to make it run right ?  NEVER NEVER has anyone been able to create an NLX style system that didnt heat up like mad. Yes thats what this system is its an NLX  or Bookend type case.
Now you go and sit for a minute and get your calculators out and do the math. WTF do think is going to happen when they shove not 1, not 2 but THREE G5 Power PC Processors all running 3ghz into a TINY TINY case along with an incredibly warm running GPU! ???  ALL cooled by 1 or 2 fans with a some plastic stinking stupid duct work ?  1 fan isnt enough to properly cool 1 CPU like that and you think that 3 CPU's and a GPU can be cooled that way your retarded!

2)
Hasnt your Hardware Experience taught you ANYTHING!!!
NEVER EVER EVER and i mean EVER go out and bu ya new piece of hardware the fucking day it launches for gods sake people dont be some stupid 6 yr old kid on xmas morning who cant wait to get his hands on santa's little gifts!  WAIT WAIT AND THEN WAIT MORE!!  let the bugs get worked out, and then let them work more bugs out! You will NEVER EVER EVER EVER go buy a piece of hardware like this(and all it is is a proprietary PC) on the day it launches cuz all your asking to have happen is get ass raped. NO company tests their hardware enough these days. I have been in the Distributing and Sales field for long enough to sit down and teach you kids a thing or two about who these companies handle things.
It's all about the $$$$ and how much $$$ they can tell their investors they are making.
It costs MS LESS money to create a shitty 1st revision Xbox360 than it would to wait 3 more months and iron out all the bugs.
It costs them LESS to send out a buggy box they KNOW is prone to hardware failures, yes believe it or not its more provitable for them to handle things this way then to wait and release a stable box. Get the units out to the public get their money and then , THEN let the public come to US with bugs and we will send out patches and/or new units. That way we can not be held liable for any issues caused by our crappy launch hardware because we can go to the public and say see WE fixed the problem and are happy to replace those defective units.
And at no time do they give a rat's ass about you or I and all the money we wasted on this paper weight , all the anger and frustration we went thru . they just do NOT care!

now that you have read this and told yourself "yeah we all know this man why are you even saying it"  now turn to your self in the mirror and slap your self in the fucking face a few times really hard and ask your self "If i knew this already then WTH did i buy it!! why!!!"  then give yourself one more slap for good measure!

now...  issues issues issues   how bout some possible fixes,, some have already been posted but i will repeat them as many of you need it repeated over and over.

1)
3 CPU's and a GPU,, HEAT HEAT HEAT  this fucker gets HOT!  dont look at me like im stupid  it gets HOT!  Silicon will start to melt and "self destruct" at around 70c.  is your box that hot when you put your hand behind it ?  hell no it aint! but inside at the CPU die contact point, is it 70c ? you better believe it is.
what is the fix ?  VENTILATION!! and MORE FANS! inside the case .   we cant add mor fans without voiding the warrenty so we ahve to work on ventiilation.
Get that damn box out of your entertainment center. keep it away from DVD players, VCR's Cable Boxes , Amplifiers/Surround units.
This box needs to be sitting out in the open all by its self.... You need 6-8 inches of air flow on EACH side of this thing. you need 6-8inches on the top and you need 1-2 inches on the bottom,, yes you heard me right you need 2 inches of ventilation on the bottom.
So what do you do ?
Go get a bottle cap lit from all that Mt. Dew you drank to try and win a free xbox and place the xbox on top of 4 of those caps or 5 or 6  just make sure the thing is stable and not going to fall over. This will allow for much better ventilation under your box.
If you cant do that  stack up 2 or 3 cd cases under EACH corner of the box and set the box on the corners of the CD cases.. remember we do not want to block the bottom of the Xbox by having the entire CD case UNDER the xbox.  use like 1/3 of the cd case to set the xbox on   but make sure you do this for each corner of the xbox.

Now if you want to do it properly Walmart use dto sell what they called a monitor Stand. It was an all metal stand about as tall as an xbox and a little wider and it had legs.. it also had a holes in the stand to allow ALOT of airflow thru the base ( they did this for cosmetic reasons nto air flow)  i got this a few days after i got my Xbox 1 and let me tell you it dropped my temps by 10deg on the xbox as it allows for MASSIVE air flow all around the unit.  ill take a picture and post it here for those who want one. but you guys MUST MUST MUST give this box ALOT of ventilation! ALOT!

2)
DONT STAND THIS THING ON ITS END!!! regardless of what micropoop thinks or says or what sony says about their PS2  2 things are going to happen when you stand it up on end.  1) all that heat inside is going to go to the top of the case which is where your HD is located.  and guess what boys and girls. Hard drives get hot enough already, let alone when you stick it on a furnace.  HD Failures and maybe alot of the failures here can be attributed to having the box stood up on end and ALL that heat just cooking the hard drive.  Data can not survive on a platter when its that hot,, it will corrupt. 2) you WILL scratch the holy living crap out of your brand new $50 games. again regardless of what you think or anyone else thinks  when you stand a DVD rom on its side it can not stop the stick from spinning in the tray,  ya know when you stop the game or eject the cd  listen to it  before that disk ejects,,, guess what you hear ?  you hear that DVD scrapping in the stray scratching the holy crap out of itself.  NEVER EVER stand a dvd rom on its side... EVER!!  not only that but once again all that heat is not being directed up to your DVD tray  and guess what happens when a DVD gets REALLY hot..  you start to get read errors.  Read Errors caused but an overheated DVD Player but also errors from an overheated DVD DISK.  CD's and DVD's are an made of an organic material inside, and what happens when they get too hot or too cold ???   they wont play properly.

people i am not hee to tell you this is an issue surrounded user erros im here to make you think about wth your doing when you got home and just sat this thing on the floor with little or no ventilation.  the damn thing is gunna bomb out and give you errors and more than likely perminent errors.  total hardware damage!

You MUST think of this device as a super computer cuz thats what it is,  and they need ventilation and care given to them.   you wouldnt slap your pc into a crowded corner with no venilation would you ?  you wouldnt turn the fans down on your cpu so low that the thing just got hotter than hell would you ?   no i didnt think so,, so.. you must never ever do that to this.. infact this thing requires 2x's the amount of cooling that your PC does and its 3x's as powerful for god's sake.
again ther eare 3 CPU's and a GPU in there that is more powerful than most of you people's PC's.

again, MS knew about this crap long before it was released.
I will have one but ya know what i aint gunna have one before spring .. why ?  cuz they WILL have released better versions of the box by then.

not only that but every friggin game there is is already on the XBOX or PC and most of you probably already played them so why the hell go pay more money for the same exact damn games ?  come on are you stupid ?  Kameo  oohh  ahhh what an awesome solo launch title that didnt already come out for PC or XBOX 1  jesus all they are doing is rehashing games that already have been there and done that.

im sorry for sounding like a real dickhead here people but your all sitting here wondering why they are crashing when you all knew this wasnt going to be a smooth ride. ESPECIALLY when Xbox-scene has for weeks now been reporting that Store units where crashing and locking.. so you went out and got one of the same units ?  you gotta be kidding me, for those who saw store units were locking and you went and got one anyways  you deserve all the bullcrap that you have gotten yourself into  your truly do.

people just wait and let M$ figure out whats truly going on.. and use your brain when you get these boxes..

for the guy who slapped his and then proceeded to tell everyone else to do it cuz it "knocked the gpu or whatever is not mounted properly, back into place"  you definately win the idiot of the day award you moron you deserve to be banned, you really do.

quit bitching about the boxes take them back get your money back and wait til spring to get one.

I love you ppl that pack that thing into ur cute little spot you cleaned out in your entertainment center... getting no new air... just the same hot ass rotfl.gif  air. As for me, mines sitting abousolutly alone on my coffee table, corners on costers, nothing touching top or side, closest thing to the top is the ceiling (8 feet away) and the couch on the sides (5 feet). Make my point? And for all of you that ur xbox crapped out on... mines working perfectly, all games, all movies, all music. I wonder why, hmm. Alright, im done being an ass, sorry guys, good luck. Ill be playing with my spiffy new 360, lol, that works.

maybe people with closed area entertainment units could cut out the back and install 3-4 BIG ASS fans so that it constandtly sucks clean air in from the centre of the room and past the xbox, then deposits the warm air down the back, big fans = quiet, fans= happy gaming smile.gif

IF YOUR 360 RATTLES READ THIS

There is a small metal ball that rolls back and forth inside the 360 so the system knows whether is is vertical or horizontal. It does this so it can properly orient the controlle quadrants. It is perfectly normal
*

That sounds dodgy. This is the 21st century afterall and even in 3rd world countries we would rather use mercury switches than noizy metal balls.
