they weren't removed, they were moved. they're now the top shoulder buttons, above the L/R triggers.

There are some nice wireless controllers for the Xbox with black/white as shoulder buttons. Once you get used to it, I think you'll like it.

I hate having 4 shoulder buttons. I hope I can move them all back to their original positions when I get mine!
