yeah they tried an could only see the dvd file structure the other files are hidden but what they didnt do is put the 360 game into the 360's dvd drive and connect it to the xbox and see if they could copy it you know MS like to use special drives on xbox

/edit

hmmm seems the dvd drive is serial ata instead of our beloved standard ide so youll need a converter or equivalent to this one here.

Yep....thats what i was thinking...probably will need to be rewired as well ( similar to the samsung hack PC-DVD rom hack)  This should be easy.  So step one of being able to rip 360 data should be pretty straight forward.  Next is retrieving the bios from the Hynix chip which might be fake....you know MS with their trickery from last time.  I cant wait to get my hands on one of these.

I don't wish to be a Negitive Nancy, but don't you think M$ put themselves in OUR shoes?(their mind set was of ours) so they saw that we could easily rip a game to the HD wit an app. This time around there must be some sort of secuirty on the DVD itself or the Drive! it shouldn't be this easy....

Just trying to be realistic IMO.

balistic2- You probably exactly right.  Gotta start somewhere though.  The more I think about the harder it will be to get that thing wired right much less being recognized by the current x3 bioses out there.  A new bios would have to be made to recognize this drive which is a feat in itself.  I think that this may be a entrance though into atleast ripping and analyzing data for exploits.  Exploits will be next to impossible however with the new Buffer overflow protection.  No buffer no code insertion.  However we  need to determine when this kernel level BO protection is loaded....speaking in theory here.

i think the 360 most vurnerable spot is the emulators that will be on the system.

No to mention there will have to be a way to get contect on the xbox via ftp..
if someone just figures out how live marketplace communicates with the xbox
they could make a program to emulate a connection and send files to the HD.

The emulators for the classic games  i would think might be able to run homebrew just because someone might find a way to decompile the data and make a app that you can send to the 360 and run it.

Just thinking of the future

I think that MS actually wants us to mod their consoles

1. People will buy it more than before
2. They might use this to look for hackers and hire them
3. they made the xbox so easy to mod
4. the xbox 360 was opened soo fast before launch
5. the hdd is detachable ( maybe u can hook it up to your pc and put some files in some saves or do something similar
6. they actually send xbox 360 deb kits to poeple that make chips

Have you ever wondered who owns xbins?? What if its MS themselves own it and they host the files so poeple can mod their xbox what if, what if.................. Maybe maybe not who knows.....

true that to the person above my post they made it for us xboxscene people because most of its features were by us case mods (graphics and stuff) media software you know what i mean they seen what use moddders were up to and copied MS is good for that i love M$ but it could be true ask seve jobbs and others and plus im glad they came out be for the fony gaystation 3 because they would probably copy some of thier crummy hardware so this system is just right even though the system looks like it can be snatched off the table by its old style pc printer power supply

It is already well known that the x360 doesn't trust the HDD, CD's, removable media or the network. You still need to pass the signature checks and overcome the encryption problem.

uhm.. no?
and devkits are not retail hardware, a modchip developed on dev hardware would be COMPLETELY useless on retail.

MS makes a loss with hardware, the only way they make money is with the software.

To all you smart guys out there here are some articles on defeating buffer overflow protection and running code.

Hope these help in the future.

yeah i was thinking about the hd (but it doesnt hold the files anymore like xbox os) only way i can see we even get close to softmodding is by making a fake xbox app as someone said with the help of a emulator

heres what i mean okay if you dont want to buy a chip like me us softmodders ill probably always have to look at that ugly xbox menu and open a hacked dash through an emulator say it was a sega emulator we would that a .bin rom with a hacked sonic the game and run it (well i never really seen sega games save so lets hope for a snes emulator) and load up mario and you know what i mean instead of it loading user A it would load User Linux or Unleash or Evox
