I'm not %100 on what your saying, but a laptop uses a 44 pin IDE cable and a desktop computer uses a 40 pin ide cable and the power wires.  The reason for the extra wires on a laptop is because the power wires are combined in the IDE cable.

just spend the extra money and get the $400 360. i understand what your asking but its nothing anyone will have to worry about for a while. it would just be like pluging a new hard drive into a non modded xbox. it wont work.

well as has been stated, you generally just need an adapter to go between the two standards, and latop drives have the power pins incorported in with the ide cable.

but i think it would be wise to fair a month or two and see what can really be done with the xbox 360, before you go out and start spending any money on what may, in reality, never be possible

considering the HD sits on an extra PCB, you need to buy a HD in the first place to hook up another.

the 360 hard drive does NOT use a standard laptop ide connector... it's an SATA hard drive... AFAIK it's the only SATA laptop drive on the market...

I'm fairly certain it uses the same style SATA connector as a desktop sized SATA hard drive...

If you're wondering THIS is an SATA coonector:

You are not going to save money buy buying a drive and moding it to work. If anything it will cost more. The prospect of a large capacity drive for the xbox 360 and a new version of xbmc for the it is very exciting but it won't be cheaper. This kind of thing is not going to happen over night.

I can only hope that my xbox 360 will have as much advantage in modding as my xbox did compared to later revisions. beerchug.gif

Everyone is assuming its a 2.5" HDD from a Laptop which comes with the 360 premium pack, It may be one of the newer 1.8" hitachi drives found in some MP3 Players  which ranges from 20GB to 40GB  smile.gif
