XBox 360 games single threaded, says Vole
October 26th, 2005
MS’S VOLE DRAMA ARMY DROPPED A BOMB today in a backhanded way. During the talk on multithreaded programming, MS used the 3 core, 2 thread per core Xbox360 as an example. The bomb was that the first generation of Xbox titles, all of them, are single threaded. Not good.
The Inq has gotten its hands on an Xbox360, yes, there is a Wal-Mart near us, and was completely underwhelmed by the quality of the games. Graphics quality was poor, and pixels were showing up blocky, ruining the wow-factor of the new console.

Every new machine has a nasty first set of games as the programmers work up to speed on the hardware. In this case, the up side is that there is about 6x the CPU power available and coming to a console near you in the second generation of games.

The scary part is that everyone tells me that the PS3 is harder to program for than the Xbox360, and the tools are nowhere near the quality of MS’s. That means that even with an extra 6 months of design time, the initial PS3 games may be worse. µ

What do you guys think about this???

LOL no Im not....I didnt know that the games were only using a single thread for launch games..

the good thing is imagine what the games will look like when they use all the power.

There are 3 things that article contains:
-The first gen games use mostly 1 core... yeah we already knew that  sleeping.gif
-That's good news because it means that there is TONS of advancemnts that can be made over the course of the consoles live... we already knew that too
-The inquirer thinks that the graphics are bad.... Who care?

Honestly who cares what the inquirer thinks... Basically all they're telling you is their personal opinion. Go to your Walmart and come back with an opinion of your own... they're usually cheaper and more accurate.

Becides I've said it 100s of times before, the inquirer is pretty much the last place you want to get your news. They're essentially the tabloids of the video game news sites. Hugo, no offense, and I didn't mean to sound like an ass when I replied earlier, but none of that is news. Its been known for months, no joke.

Its been posted here at these forums alone many many times.

Twisted...

The latest issue of Japanese economy magazine, Weekly Diamond, reveals that developers are unhappy with the state of PS3 development tools, and software is likely to be late in coming for the hardware. The article states that PS3 dev tools have only just started shipping to developers this month, while 360 tools were shipped last summer. Furthermore, SCE has not yet announced the price of the console, so developers are unable to predict what audience they are targetting games at. President of Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, says "We are unlikely to see games exhibiting a level only PS3 can achieve until the end of 2007."

Im totally cool with honesty. I remember post about launch titles being weak but I thought they were saying that they (devs) were a work in progress and only using one thread so I figured the trailers and pics were going to get better as they implemented the other 2 threads so this was news to me because I had no idea.I assumed  games get better down the road because they use  ways to get more power and down the road games get better..

So what happen? Will It take to much time and when should we expect the 360 to be running full power. oblivion, ghost recon can that be why they were pushed back?

p.s OFF the subject I dont remember were I heard this but did anyone hear anything about Al Pacino rejecting anything to do with the game Scarface the game for the 360.If that's true I dont understand why anyone would reject being on a video game there is some athletes who refuse to be on video games that Is so lame and selfish .

Oblivion hasnt been pushed back. It was never given a release date, and it will be out a week or 2 after launch anyways supposedly. Surely they wont be getting full power out of it, lol.

Expect games visuals to make huge strides in a year or 2. By that time the majority of developers will have a handle on how it all works.

By the way, there are 3 cores, each core having 2 threads.

It's called an image. I personally would reject it as well. There's nothing worse than a classic star like Al Pacino being in the 'Extra' entertainment newsstands for starring in a videogame.

I don't care how many threads/cores are currently being used.

This just shows that we haven't even begun to see what the 360 is capable of.

I can't wait for the current line-up, let alone the heavy hitters that are sure to follow.

I bet Halo 3 = 3 cores wink.gif

One for shooting, one for assasinating, and one for warthog jumps laugh.gif

i think i heard somewhere that some developers have already gotten the hang of muti-threaded gaming,.. for instance i believe bethesda has stated that the Radiant AI will be running on a seperate core.
