Xbox360 Usb Wireless Adapter
« on: October 22, 2005, 02:30:00 PM »

I have been looking into the Wireless Network adapter fro the xbox 360, and from the description it sounds like your standard usb wifi adapter.  But why spend so much on one?  You can get 3rd party Wireless USB adapters for quite a bit cheaper.  I am trying to find out if anyone knows if these adpaters will work or is the MS modified the console to only work with theirs?  Anyway here is one I would much rather buy, which is only around 30.00 and its 802.11G so it would handle 54mb/s just fine.

The XBOX 360 USB Wireless Adapter is so expensive because they are planning for the future.  It is capable of the new (but old :-P) 802.11a.  It's becoming more popular because the A-band is 5GHz and not 2.4GHz so there is less chance for interference.  If you find USB Wireless Adapters on the net, you'll probably find the price is comparable.  The 802.11a band also runs 54MBps.
