40gb 2,5" sata drives start from 80$, 20gb drives aren't widely available for public, but if they were I'd safely say they'd cost 3/4 of the cost of a bigger drive, say $60, tops.
That's for the paying public. MS has had a bitting for the contract for manufacturing the drives and they are getting them at minimum of 10% off the retail price, making it 54$ a piece. Probably less than 50$ since we know it's a huge deal and a huge order.
x360 is a negative revenue for MS and HD is a 35-40 bucks right back to MS's pocket. Don't even think they haven't thought this thing over very closely.
I agree with you... but they do have to make a caddy and then load it with their software... no it's not a huge over head but also making 30 bucks on a drive isn't OBNOXIOUS profits either  and they have been purchasing them since before the price was 80 for the 40gigs... I'm sure when they started it was closer to that price... eventually they will definitely be putting a healthy profit from these in their pocket but the first few will probably come close to break even. Again yes they are making a profit but it's not HUGE.. the idea of HUGE is because people see 100 bucks for 20 gigs and then they look at normal 3.5" drives and say "that's rape" then everyone just jumps in. I think I might have been the first person to post here (this section at least) about the actual price of 2.5" SATA 40gigs (when they were 100 bucks) at that point people were saying that 40 gig drives were only 30+ bucks from newegg. That is my beef
