Expecting Hdd Shock Damage?
« on: October 01, 2005, 11:08:00 PM »

Since the hdd will be external and be at the very top(when standing), the spot that would create the highest velocity If it were to tipp over, i forsee a few broken hdd's due to shock damage. Any body know what kind of g's it will withstand.
maybe some feet would be a good idea for M$. Ill be laying mine flat.

If it's not running it can withstand more G's than you could throw it at the ground  :P

people constantly under estamate hdd.  the rule of thumb is pretty much as long as it doesn't snap or dent its fine.  they withstand insane g's when off and a decent amout when on.  that said i wouldn't throw it out the 2nd story window or anything.

While running they are fragile don't get too carried away.  My neighbor got fustrated and picked up his laptop and slammed it down... not like feet, like inches... and it fucked up the HD.  So yes they are resilient but while on, I would want to be knocking it around too much... granted my laptop has fallen off this little pedistal it's on several times and has never screwed up... bout a 2.5 foot fall and it's always on... carpet and dirty clothes usually surround it ;)

I run my modded xbox in my car and it has had no problems with the hard drive.
