Didn't we have an OLD Xbox commercial with some chick and a dancing robot? And it was prerendered?
But I still, for lack of a better word, STRONGLY dislike Sony. If anyone else can think of a better word than "STONGLY dislike," please tell me.
MS had 2 versions of the raven demo (the vid your talking about) the first one shown was pre-rendered but MS admitted to it being rendered and was nothing more then a goal to the quality of rendering they hope to achieve. after the first showing they showed a newer version, at E3 i think, and that time it was real time running using only 800,000 polys. during that presentation they also showed a room full of ping pong balls on mouse traps being set off to show the physics, and also a graden full of butterflies. these were tech demos and not commercials by the way

.
MS could have gone the tech demo way again and im happy they didnt. tech demos show a level of quality that isnt possible in real games once the physics, AI, and other variables are set in the game world. so now unlike sony, no one can say that MS showed anything about the 360 and how they didnt deliver up to that level. i personally think they have surpassed all their tech demos with the orinigal xbox, unlike sony, but many would probably disagree.
and also for the record the MGS4 video wasnt pre-rendered it was rendered in REAL TIME using the game engine. a good reason why it looked so good is because there were none of the variables that i mentioned above. when you have all the graphics power in the system at your control you can dictate how the lighting, camera, textures, polys, and other effect pan out to give you the best picture. that is why in most, if not all, vids that have real-time cut-scenes (halo 2, RE, jack & dexter, and others) the graphics during the cut scenes eclipse the graphics you see during gameplay.
