Wired Ethernet - Is It Gigabit?
« on: September 18, 2005, 02:17:00 PM »

Just curious, and knew this was the place to ask.

None of the specs seem to detail whether it will be 100mbit or 1Gbit.

I'd figure the 1Gbit chips are cheap enough that they'd go with them, but they've cut corners more than once before...

I would think 100mb because they don't see gigabit being useful yet.. but my opinion I don't know for sure either..

cut corners??? Gigabit besides being flakey at best is just USELESS for MS.  you don't connect to the inet better than 10mb now and I think we can all agree 100mb is plenty for streaming or LAN playing... so the only ones that would benefit from gigabit would be the modders... doubt they want to cater towards us :P

Almost sure it's 100mbit.
Seen it somewhere, just don't remember where.

their is no need for gigabit, you wont see anything using that kind of speed for 10 years, i mean come on now t3 is only 44mb. Its just pointless to have 1000mb

For MS, yes.

For me, no.

Although it has no use for the average consumer, when we mod the 360, gigabit ethernet would be nice.  It's much easier to FTP stuff when it is going 10x faster.  It would be nice if we could actually get the speeds to go that high, though.

Paul's information is old and not very accurate either. I wouldn't count on there being gigabit.

the only problem is that even if u have gigabit (which i want to have on the 360), its not instantly 10x faster.  at that point it your hdd and especially the xbox's hdd becomes a limiting factor.
