Or memory card.

I hate how everyone is making things so linear and forgetting about the memory card. Core consoles will use a memory card or a Harddrive, and the bottom line is you need either one to save your goddamned game. Stop thinking that only half of the community will have a memory medium (HDD's) because EVERYONE WILL have at least a memory card.

Are you implying that you could use xbox live silver with a memory card?  I don't think they will enable that functionality, memory cards just don't have good capacity for dealing with things like voice and video messages.  In addition flash memory doesn't have the near unlimited writes that HDD's have, you get about 1000 operations before they start to become less reliable.

I think that the HDD will be required for xbox live silver or gold.

All I can say is that the Harddrive will be more like a ps2 memory card and not a ps2 harddrive. Everyone who needs to save their game positions and data will be fine with memory cards, but for the large audience who either want's more space for media, more space for game info, or more space for Live dl content and profiles/lists, the harddrive is more than available.

Sure it's 100 bucks, but it's not a 100 bucks that people can afford to ignore like the ps2 harddrive. This is why I think that more than 80% of Xbox360 consoles will either be premium packages or Core packages with a harddrive which the consumer was tempted/required to buy.

I really think that MS will make the HDD a requirement to get on xbox live. I can see big support hassles dealing with people buying content and not having the storage medium to download it.

I agree with GoldFinger Rip Off Britain!
Europe should boycott the Xbox 360 until they drop the price to £199/£249
If we don't buy, they have to drop the price.
Look at the Battery prices, they've just swopped the $ sign for a £ sign.
Made in China imported to both the US & UK.
Damm ripoff.
Definately won't be buying a 360 now.
Xbox originally £299 soon dropped to £199 when the didn't sell any.
I picked mine up when they dropped to £129.
I had a PS2 at the time, still have, but never played on it for the last 2 years.
I spent much more than that on Games, Live & Accessories.

Remember Boycott Xbox 360 in Europe!

Unfortunately I've had the nickname since the 1980's
But seriously I've been eagerly waiting for the 360 to be released.
And now we're having to pay $80/$100 on top of what our US cousins are paying.
I know we're not going to get it at the exchange rate but I didn't expect M$ to take the mick.
My suggestion of £200/£250 isn't that far off M$ pricing.
I hoping anyone who's going to buy an 360 waits until after Xmas to buy one to show M$ that UK (& Europe) don't take too kindly to being shafted over prices.
Don't get me started on games prices!!!

When MS first said that you'll be able to play games without the hard drive (weeks ago) they said that to use XBL you needed either a HDD OR a memory card to save your account data.

As far as I know messages are not saved on your local hard drive but the XBL servers.... Even today I can put my XBL account on a memory card, go to a friends house and receive my messages...

The only thing you wont be able to do with XBL on a memory card is download new content (which IMO is one of the best features of XBL), for the simple reason of space...

Technically neither console "comes with" and XBL Silver account... anyone can get a silver account at any time. But again you can only have an account if you have a place to store the account info...

If you look at the boxes both of them have the "LIVE" logo, most likely stating "Live Ready"

Yah, you are correct twisted, I just listen to the media spin blogcast off of major nelsons website. They definately stated that all you need is some local storage to connect to xbox live.  I think this is a big mistake as it makes a real support nightmare for anyone stupid enough to buy the "core editition".  Why is it every time I hear of "CORE edition" I think of "POOR edition".

I think the MS was seriously thinking of launching the core edition for the PS3 launch and really undercutting the price, and possibly even matching the Nintendo launch price. Maybe they thought that waiting until the PS3 launch would have a negative media backlash, so instead launch the poor edition now, so people will hopefully forget about it by the time the PS3 launch comes.

I certainly hope that they can get the premium edition to 299 US and the core edition to 199 US by the time the PS3 launches.

I love how some UK folks bitch about IMPORTED products being higher priced. Go read some economics info and learn why you have to pay a little more. The same would happen if the 360 came from the UK. We would notice higher prices here due to many factors. And a boycot? HAHAHA. I can see it now, the next Boston Tea Party. tongue.gif

i think the deal is good when it comes to 100 usd for all the add ons, but then again, i would only want, the console with hdd, wired controler, and mb the headset, and the s-video cables, this way i keep using my current tv, old xbox titles, and don't care for wireless. cool.gif

UN PINNING... We should all know the cost of this stuff by now... and if you don't simply check your local store or favorite online retailer.
