Obtaining An X360
« Reply #15 on: August 05, 2005, 08:45:00 PM »

Just a bit of food for thought. I ran a game store for many years and there is one HUGE negative to a pre-order. And this I have seen ohhh so many times.
You go pick it up get it home and it works for a nice day or so the ntheres a problem, now you box it up take it back to the ole' gamestop and say I need to exchange it......Heres the great part:
"we dont have anymore in stock sorry"

"Okay DAMMIT well I want my money back and I will try to hunt one down somewhere else!"

"sorry it clearly states on your receipt that there are NO refunds on game systems but we should have more in a week or so"

"WHAT"

"just look at your receipt (if its there) or look at this sign we have here at the register (that was non existant till now)"

Gamestop and EB especially Gamestop are rated on their sell through and they shun at all costs giving back a customers money, they also do not wish to hassle with taking back and shipping back a defective system (even though they get fully reimbursed!!) And you best have all the box and packaging materials or you are S.O.L.! Trust me I know all this for fact.. They look down on there stores that have to do ANY returns managers fear this!! So they will not make it easy.

Soooo where do I go WAL-MART why? Because of there NO hassle return policy, the fact that they are the largest retailer and have extreme buying power. Manufacturers make sure they are taken care of first!! They get the largest allotments. Will they sell out YES! But will they do their best to locate a replacement YES!! And will they make excuses for not returning it NO!!! Even 60 days later .. So if you get there minute 1 you will get one with no worries. And they wont try to sell you a magazine subscription or a bulk pack of accessories, and they will replace it for you..

Just food for thought beerchug.gif
To me the most important thing on a new system launch with "new" technology is a strong return policy just in case "PS2 anyone?"
And at probably $400 or so your damn straight my money will be protected!!

and they are also ruining our economic system and completely responsible for more workers being unemployed and more mom and pop corner grocery stores having to be shut down.  They are evil, plain and simple... granted they are only as evil as our government lets them be so they aren't the only ones to blame!  There should be better incentives for smaller businesses but there isn't sad.gif

What can you do... support smaller businesses yourself as much as your pocket book can handle it and then maybe even a little more... DON'T use automated checkouts (where do you think the employees that used to stand there are?).

I know ebgames and gamestop aren't the little guys but they are smaller and I would rather see them get the business.  I have no affiliation with either of these stores or even this market at all but it hurts me to see what major stores are doing to our society and economic system.

Little fact... anyone know what our number one export is?  Trash!  that's right all we have to offer the world is our paper waste products so they can recycle it into cardboard boxes to ship our xbox's and tv's to us in.  Our import/export statistics look like that of a 3rd world country NOT the leader of the free world sad.gif

We have to take our country back and not sit idly by cause that will just not do!

*ok, I'll get off the soap box now* wink.gif

oooooooooooooooooooo k...

IMO , Wal-Mart is ok , but I would say some places need one , specially where I used to live , $8 for a 24 pack of canned pepsi HA!

Sadly , this Wal-mart is always crowded , so hopefully since I have a mom that works there , she has some friends , I should be able to get one no probs

and I'll have to agree on that store credit crap , it's a pain in the ass since I've never lived real close to gamestop

Sadly I think my only set back is finding a game that I'll like if I get a game on launch day

A I watched the PBS special too...lol... and to be honest I think walmart is a pain in the ass in most instances but for systems...no the are the one. As far as helping the "little" guy well gamestop had over 1600 stores now with this "merger" well you do the math. My comments were ot at all about anything other than what was stated.

The pbs special only confirmed and brought to light a lot of the suspicions I had about walmart already.

We have umm 4 I think here... just a couple of years ago one of our local grocery stores closed (it was right down the road from where the walmart opened) even the smaller chains like Winn Dixie are closing do to walmarts.

I understand gamestop and such aren't the little guys but I guess it's a lesser of two evils here (I HATE that concept sad.gif )

ReRuss, the reason that others charge so much is because of the volume at which they can buy they still only make X dollars on a sale they just have higher over head.  Basically we can't have our cake and eat it too... we can't have  a strong economy and a strong work force and lots of "made in the usa" products (the ones actually made by americans and not sweat shops in Indo-china) AND lower prices.  Reagonomics (trickle down economy) has been proven to not work and really that's all it is.  You sound like you are in a fairly small town... pay attention to the smaller stores that start to disappear and find out what happen.

May not sound like a big deal but remember this:

Then they came for the anonymous remailers.

Actually I was goin towards monopoly

Small town , no other places sell groceries , thus they set the price at whatever they please (and they refused a wal-mart cuz it would kill already-dead business...)

It was just cheaper to drive 30 miles to a wal-mart

As for where I've seen wal-marts around here , all the other places remain open , even the crappy ones

Luckily , Gamestop (FuncoLand) that was in the mall still is there, but that's like 20 minutes away , the mall went way way way downhill , but Gamestop is still there , and I'm glad as hell , cuz target and Toys R Us didn't sell the few things I was looking for (Mainly a puck)

It's weird to think Walmart own Asda in the UK. It's gona be touch and go, when I got my Nintendo DS at 10am on UK launch day I was the last but one to get it in GameWorld, they said they wouldn't have stock for another three months ohmy.gif. I wont buy the 360 on launch, well to expensive. Couple of months later they will drop buy about £50 to £100 me thinks.
