I think you guys should stop dicussing matters that are beyond your ken and stick to the topic the OP started.

The likelihood that MS begin development on the new xbox fairly soonish is pretty darned high tho its unlikely to be public for many years to come.

a 5/6 year cycle is good for the hardware peeps and bad for the developers... the publishers don't mind either way.

i think most people are taking sony's quote of 10 years the wrong way.  im pretty sure they said the same thing about the ps2.  think about it, just because they want their system to be supported for 10 years doesnt meant that they wont release another one.  even after 10 years there are still companies making games for the ps1 (in japan atleast, correct me if im wrong).  so in reality sony can say that the ps1 had a 10 year life time.
