Wireless Controllers, Battery Life?

I know what you mean, but I'd rather have that then pay for the batteries myself. Then again, I'd probably end up plugging in the usb cable and playing wired since I'd be playing on a desk anyways (meaning im close to the screen and xbox360).

Yup that was the decision myself and mates have taken - getting the wired USB controllers.

Wireless controllers great idea, but for the sake of a wire seems like im investing alot of extra cash when i ideally need 4 controllers.

I don't think that the wireless controllers arent a seperate product. Wouldn't you just plug in a usb cable to the top of the controller and into the ports on the console?

It sounds kind of stupid to sell wired controllers along side with wired ones. This is just a waste of resources in manufacturing.

i heard the wireless controller has a USB port in the top, however i didnt know if thats confirmed? If so then ye all good, use wireless when required and wired the rest of the time.

Yeah. Well, I took a look at the controller pics again and the charge and play kit plugs into a plus on the controller. There is only one plus, though. There is no space for a usb plug. I dont't know, we'll wait till all is announced, it'll give me less of a headache.

Selling both make great sense... cost is MUCH cheaper on non-wireless and lost of peeps would rather not deal with the hassle (I'm one).

USB port on the wireless controller is not likely... that means xmitting USB data wirelessly... I know that's technically what the controller is doing but I'm betting it's MUCH more streamlined than say "anything that can come down a usb port"  I could be wrong.. but I don't see the need for MS to worry about it.

/me bangs head against the table repeatedly....

@anyone who can't believe there is a wired controller:
the wired and wireless controllers are two completely separate entities. Just like Nintendo makes both wired and wireless controllers for the GC, MS will make both flavors as well. Those people who have a difficult time wrapping their head around the idea that a company could make more than one version of a controller need to look at the official MS documentation. There are two different controllers, one is wired one is not, it's not an issue under debate, IT IS A FACT.

@Bogus8:
There IS a USB port on the top of the controller. it's a non-standard shaped connector (just like the current Gen Xbox controller ports are non standard). The point of the USB port on the top is to provide a wired connection to the console.... MANY MANY MANY devices have USB ports on them for the purpose of connecting to a computer... this is no different. My digital camera has a USB port, so does my Scanner, and lots of other stuff... the Wireless controller is no different. It's is simply a port to connect the essential "B" end of a USB cable for wired communication instead of wireless.

You mean some people actually believe there aren't wired controllers?

Okay, just believe Twisted... Simply put...

Just to add up

.MS. will be the first console maker to ever have wireless controllers as the standard controller...

So basically for example... When you buy the Xbox 360 in a box, expect a wireless controller in there, sure there could be other packages with an Xbox 360 and a wired controller...

But yes, wireless controllers are standard, one of the reason why .MS. decided to throw in the wired controller is that some people don't like to keep replacing AA batteries, makes me wonder why SONY hasn't done anything on the wired controller thing?

Unless I'm deaf, which I actually am, so we'll go with blind instead?

No, unfortunetly the wire isn't included... it's part of the "play and charge" kit.

basically the kit includes the wire as well as the rechargable battery.

I would venture a guess that the only real difference between using the wireless controller in wired mode, and the actual wired controller is the wireless one probably weighs more.

Aside from that they should "feel" like the same controller when you're playing.

I'm sure the wired controllers will be cheaper, and I wouldn't doubt that being the only reason MS is offering them. Most likely they're shipping with the Wireless Controller only so people get a taste/feel for it and like it and buy that one (more expensive) over the wired version.

Well it might not interfere with usign the shoulder buttons by blocking them or anything, but I can image that it will cramp your fingers into using the tip of your fingers to press the shoulder buttons because the kit is in the way.

Also, the wired version won't have the big battery pack in the back, so thats convenient too for people with big hands.
