Wireless Controllers, Battery Life?
« on: July 17, 2005, 06:06:00 AM »

Okok, so we're all past the ooh and ahh of the next gen consoles controller designs.. but has anyone really sat down and thought about how much its gonna cost the average joe to keep his controllers running?

anyone who owned Wireless contollers with or without force feedback, knows the batterys dont last forever.

what is M$ and $ony willing to do about it? is there a docking station for our controllers to recharge? (with included Lithium batterys?) . Are they gonna provide us with a recharging port on the controller? How many and what size batterys does it take?
Is there a battery level indicator? I hate to be playing my favorite game and just when i'm getting into it, the battery dies out, so
A) i have to recharge
cool.gif run to convience store to shell out $5-$8 for more batterys?!

also if you have 4 controllers (7 on PS2) how many batterys together you will need to recharge/replace everytime? LOL

my 2 cents..

Batteries will be AAs, so you will be forced to replace them.

You can buy rechargeable AAs that are pretty long lasting, so when you turn off the controller, just plug the AAs into the wall charger or whatever.

I believe MS will be releasing Li-Ion battery packs, or at least some third party will, so that should solve the problem of buying multiple batteries.  If you buy one Li-Ion battery for each controller, lets say that is under $100 for about 4 or 5 controllers (and that's more than most people have anyways), then you are saving the money becaue you won't be replacing the batteries, just keep recharging them.

Yes, MS has some sort of docking station for this, I have seen pictures, but am too lazy to post them.  Anyone?

Hrmmmm....it seems someone's stickies are incomplete.  YES, incomplete, so it wouldn't have made a difference.  I was referring to this charger:

Yes.  Also, I know no one that has a LAN party for more than 40 hours at a time without at least a two or three hour break to recharge the batteries to at least half before playing again.  The battery issue has been looked over by MS many times.  They will be perfect.

And if your batteries go out, wire it up.  No problems.

If you don't want to drop $80 on the cords or charging station or duracells... Just get a $30 rechargable pack from any electronics store.  They come with 8 rechargable AA's a nd the better ones take about 15 min to charge.  Just enough time to pop some more  pop.gif

Hey, sorry twistedsymphony, I didn't mean it maliciously to any extent.  Also, I meant it wouldn't make a difference when talking about the recharging station in question.  Sorry again, didn't mean it to sound rude or disrespectful.

The batteries will last 40 hours( with dual AAs) You can do the math, that= 8 AA for 4 controllers . The controller does have an idicator of remaining battery life. The play and charge kit is a first party rechargable battery set which will plug into the usb port of the xbox 360. You do not need to stop action to do this. Clueless people fondle my flaming sensations, but sadly I did not give into the urge.
