So if this is true, and toshiba has confirmed that the xbox will have hd-dvd, this means the 360 would have HDMI. I seriously doubt M$ would invest in the hd-dvd player if it wouldnt be able to output HD.

Either way you look at it, either M$ or toshiba is fibbing :rolleyes:

The XBOX 360 will be in HD. MS spokespeople (forgot which ones) said this is the HD era, and they are embracing it.

MS has said there would be no HDMI on the 360. But it was a "possibility" in the future.

Perhaps their proprietary connector will just be a repinned HDMI cable, but they want it specific for XBOX use only? Could be anythin, we'll have to wait for the final announcement.

Nah, its not a proprietery connector, because MS said repeatedly it was a analog signal, not digital. So if this is true, its HUGE news.

But of course well have to wait before M$ decides to actual tell us whenever they feel like it, ugh.

It would be huge, but we'll have to wait and see for the truth. I wouldn't be surprised if they really pull the rabbit out of the hat on this one.

well the Xbox 360 basically is a media center btw ;p

And also the HDMI requirement could be bent for the 360 because of Toshiba being in such a good position if they were to outfit the 360 with a HD-DVD drive.

Yeah, I think though that MS does plan an HDMI cable, i mean, why not, it can be done and it should be done, since HDTV's with HDMI are flowin into the market right now.

I think it is really necessary. With Analog TVs being faded out by 2009 (http://engadget.com/...34000580050352/) at the latest, the XBOX360 has to have the latest tech for the future right? They want to keep up to date, well by not using HDMI, they could really be screwing themselves over.

Also, it is a major competition factor for Sony's PS3 claim of 1080p (note, it is probably simulated, not true 1080p, but still).

You've got your story mettled up... analog BROADCASTING will be replaced by digital... meaning digital HDMI vs analog Component has nothing to do with it what so ever. :rolleyes:

the only thing that law changes is how the signal is transfered over the wire from the cable company or how your TV interprets signals coming from those dusty bunny-ears. In a lot of places cable companies have already made the full switch over to digital broadcasting.

In-fact, the place I just moved to in BFE NH only has digital cable available.

Trust me that change over wont make much difference, if any, at all. Save maybe improving the quality of some weak signal locations and bankrupting many many local broadcasters who can't afford the equipment upgrades.

HDMI, DVI, and Component connections all are ok for HD programing. HDMI is basically just a DVI connector and audio connectors in one cable that is it. DVI and Component can both use the flags that the movie and tv industry is pushing for anti-piracy. HDMI is just a ease of use thing for long cable lengths and a marketing thing nothing more.

Besides how many people with HDTV and 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound run there audio into their TV's first and then in to their amp. Actually how many poeple with 5.1 or 7.1 even run audio into their TV.

Hrmm, yes I must have misinterpreted the news story. Either way, digital is the new analog, so MS is kicking themselves if they don't put in HDMI.

God damn it , i dont want to buy an HDTV , they cant make me , my normal Flat Screen TV can hold far more than 2009 , fucking goverment . haa!!!

Twisted, Xombe, appleguru, SOMEONE make a sticky about the damn Digital TV Act. Please.

To those of you who STILL don't understand... I'm going to spell this out. Plain and clear.

IN 2009, ANALOG TRANSMISSIONS WILL BE STOPPED.

This means that stations will have to be broadcast digitally. Your standard junky $200 televisions will still work. You will simply need a way to receive the signals. Cable companies will NO LONGER be able to claim any sanctimonious premier digital television. It will ALL be digital. And this means DIGITAL. It does not mean HD. HD programming is a subset of Digital transmissions. (A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square... get it?)

The purpose of this move is to open up the (fairly cluttered) spectrum for other means of analog communication.

STOP WORRYING. YOUR TV's WILL STILL WORK.
