Itagaki Happy With 360 (interview)
« on: July 01, 2005, 08:59:00 PM »

QUOTE
"The Xbox 360 has enough power without all the cores going into use. Even if just a single core is used for a game, it will still be several more times powerful than machines up until now. But we aren't satisfied at that kind of a level. Our programmers are having fun playing around with the machine. They're swinging around all the cores and making a game that shows the powers of the Xbox 360. Itagaki said that the Xbox 360's 512MB of main memory is more than enough for games, but he feels that the machine's media might bring up some problems. He said he would have preferred MS to adopt the high-capacity HD-DVD format, but he said that, given the next-gen disc format wars, he could live with MS's decision."

There's alot more in the article, it was a good read. Looks like the real developers are pretty happy about the 360, just further proves the anandtech  article was BS. He addresses all of the main inssues and while the team is not happy with all of the decisions they can understand and live with them. according to Itagaki. He also addresses the rumor of team ninja moving to the PS3.

Yeah I didn't really care they werent going to have HD-DVD but then he mentioned it would be nice and they were shocked that they didn't include it, and it might eventually constrain games but I'm sure by the the time that becomes an issue they will have better compression techniques and such. I'm also interested in the announcement. It's supposed to be "big" so I'm really curious about it. It could be hardware related which would be interesting or more likely new developers/price? Who knows, it should be interesting none the less. beerchug.gif

maybe he was trying to drop a hint while keeping the HD-DVD speculation to a minimum?  That or he wanted to increase the effect of an HD-DVD announcement.  I think that if he kills the hype about the big announcement, there will be a bigger reaction once the media format change is announced.  Or maybe I'm looking into it too much.

but us americans are lazy and arrogant.  the huge announcement will either be stupid and mean nothing or it will be HD-DVD probably. i could be wrong but its probably gonna be nothing big if its not the format switch.

If it's not the format switch I hope it's some nice new exclusive developers. New developers are always nice. love.gif

we don't get told anything that doesn't concern immediate development schedules. Media format does not change them in any way or form.

but it looks like i might atleast be half right

http://www.xbox-evol....php?artid=2355

famitsu already said that it invovles a game announcement.  although i doubt that the whole conference/show will be centered around just one game, im sure something big will be the finale.  in all honesty the only big japanese game i can see to make that big of a splash is final fantasy appearing on 360 (other then that rehashed ps2 POS port) but i dont see square giving MS THAT much support right off the bat of their starting relationship

Yeah I think alot of it will have to do with the beta kits being shipped. By then it will have alot of demo's to show off it's power, kinnda fits in with itagaki's reference to if they should make a new DOA4 demo for that conference or to work on the game. Right now I guess it could be anything alot of things fit.

they shouldnt bother making a new demo for the show but instead just show what kind of work and progress the game has made so far.  i think it would be more impressive just to show some footage rather then putting together a demo that was intended on showing off the games best features.  i know some think there is no difference but im sure a specialized demo for a show takes some time out of a development schedule atleast a few weeks if not more.  or better yet if its at all possible, dont know this much about game development yet, but if they can just take the script from the E3 movie and just replace it with the game engine running on updated hardware that would show people better then anything how far the game has come along within such a short amount of time.  basically i hope they are able to show those who were skeptic about the video that the game will be next gen without putting too much effort into it.

i was worried at first glance of the video but then i remember when DoA3 first showed many said it didnt look much better then DoA2 on dreamcast/ps2.  i loved how the vid looked, the backgrounds were gorgeous but the characters lacked that next gen leap.  they can keep the models the same but atleast give us strands of hair not that crap on their heads that was clipping everywhere.  but i did read in an interview of how that is one of the issues that will be addressed when future hardware gets in their hands.  either way i have faith that MS and team ninja will make a big splash in a couple weeks   beerchug.gif

That article also mentions the demo was running on the alpha kit so DOA4 looked like it did at 25% power love.gif  should be a good game, they always are.

not only was the game running on hardware 25%  of the full power but the game itself was only 15% complete

i doubt it, if it is then great but famitsu already said its going to be an announcement about 3rd party games and such.  i dont really see how a HD-DVD drive would excite the japanese gamers.  they may talk more about it or even announcement it, but i dont see that being the highlight of the show
