why not? because HVD isn't even CLOSE to being finished, the test drives cost upwards of $1000 just to make, and the blank discs (which are _extremely limited_ in number) cost as much from manufacturers as a pressed, completed DVD game does to a consumer

I don't really care for any of it, I'll buy a seperate HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/HVD player (depending on which prevails) simply for better quality, even if the 360 does support an HD optical format.

I've tried Googling this but I haven't found a decent answer... alot of "maybes" but no "yes's".  Is it possible to have a triple layer DVD?  Since dual layer is simply a second layer underneath the substrate accessed by a different focal point, isn't is feasible that a triple layer disc/drive be made available?  Blu-Ray has done 4 layers officially with 8 layers on the table next.  I don't know if that's a limitation of DVD's or if it's just never been thought about.  Anyone?

I think it's a function of the manufacturing process of the media and the abilities of the drive.

Most DVD drives are only capable of focusing on up to 2 layers (DVD9)... I would imagine they could add more if they wanted but you'd also need to change the manufacturing process of the disc and get new specialized drives to read said discs... at which point, why not just use a newer blue laser format?

My guess is either HD-DVD, Halo 2 preloaded to the HDD, or some throw away features that really has no business knocking people's socks off  tongue.gif

hd dvd brings more advantages to gaming other than high resolution, so i dont think that would be the only reason for them to deny hd dvd.
