Well it comes down to the old saying...money talks and bullshit walks...if Toshiba is willing to lose a shitload of money to get thier  HD DVD drives out there, then the 360 will more thn likely have HD DVD drives...If Toshiba isn't..then tough shit...MS has a Product pricing goal...period.

i don't understand the big deal about having a hd-dvd drive, after all there will be a next generation media format battle, why would MS want to take sides on it? they would in effect be taking sides with Toshiba. yes ok, they already announced ages ago that they be supporting hd-dvd in the next windows, but supporting it in windows and supporting it in a console are completely different. however, blu-ray is the better format, and thats a fact, and i for one would not buy a HD player unless it played both blu-ray and hd-dvd because one of those formats is going to lose (i'm thinking hd-dvd). just stick with the dvd drive, its proven technology, its faster, its cheaper and in fact superior in every way that matters.

Component analog inputs are true HD connections.

Yes, but think about it for a second. Think about how much more clear a digital sound connection is over an analog connection. Sure you can get "true" 5.1 from an analog connection, but an uncompressed digital connection is much more clear. The same applies for video connections. HDMI/DVI are uncompressed digital connections. Broadband Component is an uncompressed analog connection.

Does a Cassette or CD sound better? Does a DVD look cleaner than a VHS?

Yes to both. We live in a digital age. With M$ running around talking about the HD era, they need HD era connections, which components are not. Component connections exist on many/almost all SDTV's now. Find me one SDTV, meaning only does 480i, that has a true HD digital connections, HDMI/DVI.

I guess what I am saying is that, if they want to speak of HD era, I expect all the features of the HD era, not just some.

Nicely presented, very convincing. I personally would prefer digital connectors, however  I would reserve my judgement until I saw the actual results on-screen.

I feel you are all getting lost in the hype of the next gen for everything and forgetting that we have yet to master the curren gen of media - PS2 still releases cd games and there is plenty of life left in DVD-9. If M$ put a HD-DVD drive in the 360 it does not guarantee better games and it will guarantee higher costs for all of us.

i thought fourier transforms were just used to basically represent any wave in terms of a product of sin and cosine functions, hell i just did them in my course but i'll be damned if i can rememeber anything about them! mind you i studied it purely in terms of mathematics, i don't do a course on electronic engineering or anything like that.

I agree with crustyteacup. This whole High-Def dvd medium is being pushed by movie companies so they can resell us the films just like lucas with star wars, star wars remastered, star wars with 5mins of extra (crap) scenes and star wars dvd. No joke I know at least four sad sad people who own every one of those boxsets and they were released over a period of a few years. People are suckers. They will buy the latest tech just because its new. Just like people who have rebought their vhs movie library on dvd people will go out and buy HD-DVD's all over again.
