Last year, I went to Sony Online Entertainment for a career day assignment for school. My career day person said that they did have a PS3 Dev Kit in some back room. I guess it was really secret, so I wasn't allowed to see it. He said it was huge because if someone broke in and tried to steal it, they wouldn't be able to do it. I don't know how much I believe that story, but this does look real to me, considering I met an employee who saw it and said it was huge.

yeah... just to put it in perspective.

I've heard people say that the big extension thing on the top of that is the external power supply.

One journalist described it as being "the size and shape of 3 power strips taped together"

looking at that picture again I think it very well could be.
