Click A Folder, Start A Movie?
« on: June 09, 2004, 09:06:00 AM »

Hey all,

Is the following possible?

Can I click a folder that has say, the Last Samurai, and have it automatically launch the video_ts.ifo file in that folder?

If it is possible, can anyone elaborate as to how to do it?  I imagine it would have to be done somewhere in the xml config file, but i'm not sure how or if its even possible.

Thanks for the help!  <

Just turn on stacking. do a imdb lookup on the folder and use the movie db.  <

But what if IMDB doesn't have the movie? What can you do then?  <

Stacking does not work in IMDB title view however.

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?f...054&atid=581838

I still think it should, but I solved my case anyway.

Why not skip the ifo file and just rename the VOB files in the following manner (as example, let's say The Last Samurai has 5 VOB files):

The Last Samurai.vob
The Last Samurai2.vob
The Last Samurai3.vob
The Last Samurai4.vob
The Last Samurai5.vob

Then, select stacking and they display as one file. Selecting the "Hide media extensions" in Settings -> General makes it even prettier.

However, you'll still have to enter the folder and then start the movie, which I find annoying.
This is why I wanted stacking in IMDB title view in the first place.
Now I just have ALL my movies in ONE directory with the naming convention above.
I can't think of another way really.
I want my movies to be accessible directly, without having to enter any folders (I want a 100% kiosk/mediacenter experience). IMDB title view is perfect for this, but as I said, stacking doesn't work in it.

Great info Phunge...

Here's my 2cents.

What if you have all the files in one directory, like you mentioned. Create a thumbnail (The Last Samarai.tbn). Now here's the kicker, will Stacking work now that you have that tbn to kick off the movie?  <

i have gone to that setup. the only annoyance is the lage when switching from vob file to the next and the size of the thing. Autogk1.25 cuts the size in half with no discernible quality loss on a 36" tube monitor.  <
