i read an artical about blu ray disks when sony first proposed the idea a litle over a year ago i think, any way they said they would be almost entierly made up of paper.
i dont know how they make a readable disk out of paper, but it seames that would be the cheapest way to go.

There is an article about it, I heard they are rather fragile but the new clear coat makes it more resistant to scratching. The problem with there not being a unified format is one of them will have to become dominant and one will die out, the market will not support 2 formats, Blu-rays will be much more expensive because the factories that make them have to get new equipment to make them. I don't know if HD-DVD can be burned on with current DVD burners but if they can that will be a huge advantage, Blu-ray burners will be ridicously expensive for another year or two.

what i have heard about the hd-dvd is that they would have a disk that the consumer could somehow glue their existing dvd to so it would be compatible in the hd-dvd players.
i'm not doing that crap to my dvd colection.
piss on that new hd format. i'm satisfied with dvd. hell they still make vhs so i prasume that dvd will be around for a very long time.

hmm this means that theres 50% probability that we might have X360 with HD-DVD , after all, M$ is still holding the production of the X360 a bit. so who knows , maybe tomorrow we will see news that X360 will come with HD-DVD. since it already supports HD so why not HD-DVD!

I hope they go with HD-DVD after all, if they don't I don't see them ever releasing an upgrade because it will not be unified format giving the developers a headache and such. They would be smart to go HD-DVD seeing as they will most likely have to start using 2 disk's to hold the larger games.

No because, both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray use a blue laser and not a red laser to read and write data.

Thank you.  Well I guess it comes down to which one is cheaper and which one gets widespread use on the market first. Toshiba just released a 45Gig HD-DVD so now blu-ray and HD-DVD are on a even playing field size wise.

who the hell cares what format they use (MS and Sony)!!!? if sony uses blu ray, their drives are gonna be too slow compared to currnt dvd drives and thus affecting gameplay (Which is more important than the size of  their dick...err.........i mean, disc).

Its not that important which format they go with..........if you want HD so bad get a usb HD drive and put it on your xbox360.

i could have sworn that HD-DVD still uses the red laser format....

....and i know for a fact that their was an interview with Steve Ballmer i believe on xbox365 and heres what he said about the subject of disk format.....

To sit there and just take a look and say “Well, they’re just faster…” Well, we’ve got three cores, they’ve got one core. Actually, we were pleasantly surprised by what they announced. They’re later, and yet we think we’re going to outperform them on a bunch of stuff. We think we’ve got better balanced system performance than they do. Now, when you’re the second guy of course you’re going to be faster. We sit there and say “There are some things [on the PS3] that are faster… [whispers] but there are some things we’re faster on, too.”

i honestly dont think that having a HD drive will benefit that much for gaming....

other then needing more disks for the games i see no other point, and if theirs a chance that having a newer drive would be a disadvantage towards the loading or streaming of data then i say stay with the DVD9 until the format is not in its infency

hd dvd and blu ray uses a blue laser. i would bet money that there wont be hd drive on 360 when it comes out. since both formats are not out yet why should they spend the money to add one. ms doesnt want to pay sony for blu ray. they dont want to be stuck into a dead format. there is so much room to use on dvd-9 who cares.

I personally don't care if I have to get up and switch a disc every 20 hours, but what about the "future of DVD movies?"

If the PS3 can play them and the 360 cannot, we may be in a big hole.  And one XBox that supports HD-DVD and one that does not??

They should just, in my opinion, go with it.  If they adopt it early, manufacturers will scramble to produce them which could put Sony in trouble.

DVD9 seems like a limited amount of space for game developers... is this the first time that a next generation console has used the same type/size of media as the previous?

games are getting bigger and there are a lot of xbox 1 games that take up 5-7 gigs and that doesn't leave too much space for all the new flashy graphics we'll be seeing.
