what kinda games you plan on downloading junior?? Unless you got a fiber connection to the Internet you won't be downloading many high quality games. Most games are already over the 2GB limit. Do they expect you to download 2GB or more of data to a console?? Hope you have a 250GB or larger drive to hold all the games and data...

Then again...the games you download from MS will likely have time limits on them and after so many days or weeks the game expires until you pay the piper..

There will be demos for full XBox games and, yes, they will expire.  Maybe they will delete everything but a nag screen?

They have confirmed an XBox Live arcade with a lot of new stuff and "parlor games," so you'll be able to play Hold 'Em with all your buddies in Japan, assuming more than 2 or 3 people there actually but 360's.

I just wanted to add that I have a max 10mbit cable modem to the Internet, so if I connect to a fast enough server, I'm burnin'.  Not that many people around me have Cable Modems, so I can really fly.

RCN all the Way!!

full game downloads will be STREAMING

Meaning that when you see the "loading" screen it's downloading just the level you need.

so you're not downloading the full game to your hard drive like we do with our modded Xboxs just imagine the hard drive being used as a large chunk of virtual memory.

yeah you'll need more then 20gb HD to have a service to download games.

Anyone see the IL Phantom?

Really?  Very interesting, thanks.

Won't that kill their servers?  I mean, so many broadband connections downloading levels at one time?  They wouldn't cap download speeds, I hope, to save money.  That would just be cheap.

We'll see...

Streaming games? I doubt it, it would be extremely hard to implement and even work for people on a low speed connection ie. 256k. Imagine downloading a level with all textures etc for a game lets say 300mb (307200kbytes). On a 256 conenction you get around 27.5kb/s right? Now 307200 divided by 27.5 is 11171 seconds (rounded up) which is 186 minutes which is a little over 3 hours... Imagine a 3 hour loading screen. I can and no-way would  anyone sit through it. Even with a 1.5mbit conenction (Highest available to many Aussies) is still 30 minutes.

Then you have to think "What happens if i have a power outage or my conneciton is lost" Do you lose your money? Do i have to start the download again? Are the files corrupted? These and many more issues must be addressed before MS does anything like this. If they overcome these barriers this will revolutionise the way we play games.

Just my thoughts.

I don't think this system is going to work.  There's just too many bandwidth/server issues coupled with the fact that we only have 20GB drives to work with.  My current XB has a 20gb drive and it can't hold that many games to begin with (even if it was installed on my PS2, it would hold only 5 games at max capacity)

The demos are believeable and I truly hope that this is true.  I really hate having to go buy a 7.00 magazine just to try out a game and that disc may not even hold the title I want to try out.  Also, this gives us more possibility of a much larger collection of demos to choose from, which makes game buying A LOT easier.
