Upgrade Xbmc Questions
« on: June 08, 2004, 03:48:00 PM »

What's the easiest way to upgrade to the latest CVS of XBMC?  Is it enough to copy off my .xml file from the root, and just overwrite everything?  How do I retain the other settings that were setup in the UI (screen calibrations, etc).  I searched around for a while in the FAQ links but couldn't find any specific information about this..  Any help is appreciated!  <

All you have to do is delete your XBMC folder and just install the new one. All your settings are saved in UDATA I believe, but everything will be as you left it. I do it all the time.  <

Some of us were talking about this yesterday.  You also have to delete the e:\tdata\0face008 folder.  I would overwrite everything BUT the XboxMediaCenter.xml file and delete the e:\tdata\0face008 folder.  You can compare the new one against the old one if you re nervous, but the xml file is not updated as often.

Some upgrades are tougher to install than others.   Kinda rare, but it's best to delete the t/udata folders as stated if it is your dash.  My routine is:
- Install new version right beside old one
- Copy my xml to the new folder and hope its compatible
- Delete t/udata and look for differences in the xml structure only if I have problems.
- Copy my scripts and skins to the new build
- Play with features, and decide whether its worth the upgrade.
- Delete whichever build I decide to delete

Anymore I have to actually desire the new features to keep a new build. Its a lot of work to do on a daily basis  <

I just goto the M$ dash and delete the xbmc save file before I shutdown and then do a fresh install....works everytime  <

Why not just chill out a bit. Grab the new version every two weeks. Relax.  <

lancerx, there is no need to upgrade every day- check the bug report page here, and if there is a bugfix or new feature that directly affects you (e.g. many people will not care if ogm support has been improved/fixed etc.) then you can go ahead and update, otherwise there is no real need to:

Just noticed the following addition:
QUOTE

added: New option in XBoxMediaCenter.xml to specify external application for handling CDDA

so maybe the new xml may have to be used, as an additional feature has been added, one of the devs can probably verify this.  wink.gif   <

No need to add it if you dont feel like it but as always, please do, as it nice to know people are using an up to date xml when making bug reports etc.

Just add this:

Just abit offtopic, but a rather amusing thing imho.

1½ month ago people where flooding the forum asking for new builds etc etc etc

Now there are "complaints" that they come out to often.

(Dont take offens Lancerx, it was just a little bit amusing to me wink.gif )  <

no kidding.  who complains about having "too many" choices.  Atleast when you have choices you can decide whether or not you want to try upgrading.

I wish all xbox software had this "problem".  I keep seeing this .64 thing that will never go away.  <
