Playing Divx Movies With Ac3 Encoding...

I have several movies that I believe are encoded with AC3, when I try to play them through XBMC there is no audio.

Can anybody tell me how I can identify the encoding method?

Also, can these files be re-encoded to play correctly in XBMC?

Try changing in settings->audio options  audio output to digital and DD/DTS Multichannel Passthrough to yes. Also check in msdash that you have DD and DTS enabled. And ofcourse the dumb question... do you have the advance rgb pack so you get optical out? :-)
