Boot Xbox Without Dvd Drive
« on: November 13, 2004, 10:30:00 PM »

Yeah, I have booted my Xbox without the dvd drive. If you load a bios into EV_TOOL, or another BIOS editor, there is  a flag for DVD DRIVE CHECK. Put in your settings and make sure to uncheck that then flash you chip with it. Viola, you can remove your dvd drive. .  Be careful when flashing your BIOS make sure you are using one that is compatible  or your box may not boot.

PS the dvd drive will still work   if you decide to put it back in.

QUOTE (ntloser @ Nov 14 2004, 12:47 AM)

I have been thinking of replacing or permanantly removing my xbox dvd drive too. My older Samsung drive works great but it can't recognize DVD+R media. Will a pot tweak fix that?

no, its a firmware issue

what you can do is see if theres a hacked firmware for your dvd burner that will burn with the dvd-rom bitsetting (as opposed to dvd+r) then the samsung will read it no problem
