A Smarter Way Of Playing
« on: June 03, 2004, 08:08:00 AM »

I've copied The Red Hot Chili Peppers Greatest Videos DVD onto my Xbox using DVD2Xbox.

The way it is now, the files look quite messy.
I've got each Music Video in a seperate folder. It's something like this (I'm away from my Xbox and am just gessing at what the files looked like)..

Folder - 01 Higher Ground Contains:
--Video_TS.bup file (Don't know what this is)
--Video_TS.ifo file (I click this to launch the video)
--VTS_01_00.VOB file (the Video)

The reason I just don't have a single VOB file for each music video, is that some videos automatically play a different stream on launching - The commantary track plays instead of the music.

So, can I squash these files into one file? What is reccomended?

Why in the world would you keep it a VOB. They are huge!! Why not re-encode it into an XVID .avi file? You could take a 6G VOB down to a ~1.5G .avi, and still keep the AC-3 audio track. Here is my proces for DVD rips:

DVD Decrypter - for the DVD rip.

AutoGK - For the re-encode to XVID .avi

Works like a champ. Audio as good as the dvd, and video damn close. Plus, look at all the disk space you'll save.

if you're  watching on an 8 foot screen, i'm sure you'lll see compression artifact. Since mplayer cant do menus, might as well strip all that stuff out with dvd shrink and just leave the english ac3 track. That process saves about half the space without compression.
