After you have the skin installed in the xbmc/skins dir.
Start up your system.
Start up xbmc.
Once its up goto settings.
Under the default skin you go into user interface.
In there you should see the skins option just change to the skin you want, wait about 4 seconds and the system should apply the new skin.
