Well wouldn't it be the same if you kept them on your PC and its "HD takes a crap" as you put it?

Streaming mp3s from the PC to the XBox is a fine feature, but honestly: why would I want a media center if I still have to keep my ugly and noisy computer turned on? Even though I keep it in another room, for me it still is a waste of energy to have two devices sucking power.
So I bought a large HD for my XBox and store my CD-collection on its harddrive as 192kbit compressed mp3.
The network feature is something I wouldn't want to miss from my XBox, but ftp is enough for me.

I had loads of problems streaming movies over wireless LAN until I upgraded from 802.11b to 802.11g.  Now it works fine.  Mostly...

Yes, of course I'm streaming MP3s from PC to Xbox.  Used Relax with XBMP, but now I'm having flawless performance with XBMC and SMB.

Why leave my PC on?  Well, it's a file server anyway, and is always doing SOMETHING (downloading, video encoding, etc.).  Plus, why rip/encode to your PC, then STILL have to FTP your MP3s locally to the Xbox?

Yup. I stream over 802.11g and wired ethernet off my tower, which is always online anyways.

been streaming mp3s flawlessly for the last few months using XBMS. Been meaning to make the switch to SMB but I've been too lazy  :)
