Changing The Face Of Xbmc
« on: May 28, 2004, 09:25:00 AM »

When xbmc boots up, i want to see the weather info off to the left instead of having to click on a weather choice on the menu on the right. Is there an easy way to mod  the main screen? Resource editing?  <

No not realy. You have to edit the skin. Take a look i either pal or ntsc and myweather.xml and home.xml and start experimenting.  <

There's definately no way YOU'RE going to be able to do it. That's for sure!  <

Read skinning.txt that should come with your xbmc release or check pinned topic for a link to it  <

well he's actually right- short of essentially rewriting the skin (you'd need the xbox development kit for this) i think it'd be impossible to do what you want- you can launch xbmc so that my weather is the first thing you see and then you'd have to press back to get back to the "main stat upscreen"

change this line

 <startwindow>0</startwindow>

not sure what number corresponds to my weather  (its not 1-9- can't be arsed to keep checking it)  <

thanks, that's what i was looking for-an assessment of whether a problem was do-able and the level of  complexity. I'll try the startupwindow line and see how that feels.  <

I apologize if you took offence to my comment...but that would be a feature that the devs would have to add in. If you want, you can download the source at...

Im no skinning expert.... but it could be done in the skin.

now that being said skins for xbmc are no small matter. This isnt evox folks.
If you'd like to try your more than welcome... but if you are easly intimidated then i would look for another solution... its one click anyways  <
