Smb Shares Not Working After Power Outage
« Reply #15 on: May 28, 2004, 04:12:00 PM »

I have disabled XP's Firewall and my Norton firewall. I can ping my Xbox. In fact, I can FTP into my Xbox using XBMC's Filezilla.  I have tried putting the XBMC user account in different groups without aveil. Not even when I made it an Administrator! Here is the pertinent information from the XML file (which does open without errors in both IE and firefox):

<bookmark>
<name>SMB</name>

<path>smb://Mshome;XBMC:[email protected]/Videos/</path>
</bookmark>

all of my other shares follow are identical (except the share name of course).

I have been troubleshooting this thing for the past three days! The most frustrating thing is I am a third year computer programming student who has taking 5 or 6 courses on networking. Internetworking Fundamentals, Networking - NT, Networking - Linux, Networking - Novell... okay. Maybe only four, but still!

EDIT: Also, since disabling XP's firewall my Xbox no longer hangs for 20 seconds before telling me "Access Denied". It pops up right away.

Anyhow, another thing to try is recreating your share.  Create a completely new share, naming it something like Test, and then try.

Any error in xbmc.log?  What does that show you?

Also, try without the domain/workgroup.

smb://XBOX:[email protected]/Videos/

I am also assuming that you are using XP HOME right?  Since you had put MSHOME as the workgroup.

I'm not sure if HOME has auditing at all, but that is something to check.  You can then enable login auditing and then check event log for errors (I'm sure you knew that as a 3rd year comp sci student smile.gif ).

xbox.log doesn't show anything out of the ordinary.

I am using XP Pro. I had checked the logs in MMC, but didn't realize I had to enable login auditing. I'll check it out.

Hey! Give me a break. I only worked with XP Pro clients! But Iguess 2000 Server's not too far off.
